Ohio State gets smacked, 35-3, to the hands of USC... great another embarrassing prime time loss. Our image takes a turn for the worse however I'm reminded of a quote from Earl Bruce...
While writing this article I wanted to stay away from those three big losses and I am going to do that because we just beating a dead horse about that. However, there is one huge factor that cannot be overlooked about this 2008 football team. No, it's not Beanie's injury, whether Pryor should start or not, or the coaching dilemma, but it's the teams character from here on out.
Our national title hopes are completely shot, and those who think we still have a chance, should take of the S&G sunglasses right away. We have a golden opportunity to become the first team in Big Ten history to win three consecutive outright championships and a chance to go to the Rose Bowl. This is something that excites me and should excite everyone else but... in order to accomplish that we need a character check.
From here on out, our character, will determine whether or not this team wants to take what's available and make the best of it. They can fume and moan all they want about the missed opportunities or they can look towards the positives and move on. Get better as a team and push one another to hold their own weight.
However, if they come out slow and can't get passed the rough parts then this season is over because the Big Ten is tough and they won't feel sorry for you. Wisconsin, Penn State, Illinois, Michigan are all looking to knock you down further but it's your decision to make if you want to prevent that.
The Buckeyes can finish this season out on a positive note but it all starts with their character and whether or not they can deal with the bumps and bruises. What happens right now determines this teams character. Are you going to be a winner or are you going to prove the media to be right? It's your call.
Ohio State is never as good as everybody thinks when it wins, and never as bad as everybody thinks when it loses.
