Way to come out on the wrong side of history, dumbass.

The NCAA is going to be forced to modernize, and it's about time. I'm sick of the stories of kids declaring early for the draft because their families are destitute while schools build personal team barber shops and indoor waterfalls with sponsorship money.

Is it possible this law could be a negative for future college athletes?

Can this open up more corruption in college athletics?

On the playing field, how does this help create a more level playing field? I am thinking it will only expand the haves and haves not...….

I support kids having the opportunity to earn a living just like other non athlete college kids...…..

What happens if only a few states pass this law and the rest do not? How is this going to work?

Just considering unexpected consequences of laws...…….

If you can keep track of player meals, you should be able to keep track of approved sponsors.

It doesn't, but let's not pretend that the NCAA cares about a level playing field ... They have no issue with schools engaging in an arms race when it comes to facilities, coaching salaries, stadiums, etc. The only time they care about a level playing field is when it just so happens to benefit the players without lining the schools'/NCAA's pockets.

NCAA will have to abide, and the players will choose a future that is best for them. California is doing the right thing IMO, and it's going to force the hand of everyone else. It's about time someone did something about this.

I might be wrong but I feel like each kid would have no requirement to use an affiliated sponsor of the school. Doesn't this just allow kids to handle this opportunities themselves and if they want representation they can get some?

I agree. Just a secondary thought on how this affects the game of college football and basketball as they are your money makers........from a competitive standpoint, it is more likely the gap between the big boys and small programs will only grow and basically be the end of the NCAA. I would anticipate the power 5 would form their own league. A huge step toward recognizing both sports as a minor league to their the NFL and NBA.

It is the right thing but individual states passing similar laws will be problematic going forward. It could be a mess.

I am going to get my popcorn for the upcoming court battles.

Shit or get off the pot. We're sick of your BS, NCAA.

The laws are on the books, so if you want to keep your flagship west coast teams (USC, Cal, UCLA, and more), you'd better act fast.

I love how they're acting like they've been working to make this happen, when it's been an issue for 30+ years (and longer). The only thing complicating this is the NCAA's greed.

NCAA has been raking in money on the backs of these kids and it is absolutely wrong for college athletes not to have the same opportunities as a regular college kid who can hold a job etc.

States are gonna flip so fast it’ll make your head spin. Hence the comment on TOSU president being on the wrong side of history.

There’s no way the NCAA will be willing to give up Florida and Cali schools.

Also, the headlines that read “pay student athletes” are very misleading. They’re simply making it illegal for the NCAA to monopolize the image/likeness of student athletes.

I'm pro free market for the players likeness, image, etc.. idk how I feel about the signing agents part. Right now I don't like it. Brings up plenty of conflicts with player eligibility at that point. Now, if a player p wants to go that and go the XFL route instead, so be it.. and in that scenario I'm okay with it.

Just give me NCAA football back dammit.

My question...if OSU plays UCLA and a player has a record breaking game....when OSU uses the video, do we have to pay every UCLA player that appears in video?

If so, that's where I could see schools not wanting to play cali schools

I believe this refers to commercial/talent agents, not football agencies. Players will 100% need them if they are going to negotiate contracts for commercial work.

I don’t think broadcast rights would be payed directly to players, as these are negotiated by the universities (do NFL players get added $$ from highlights)?

However, Jersey sales, apparel contracts, etc will now be on the table for athletes to negotiate.
