It’s about damn time... I’ve been saying this for 10+ yrs. This is one of the biggest travesties in all of sports. Free the student-athlete to seek commercial work!

I believe they deserve some monetary solution however they are also getting a free education which is priceless if they use it to their advantage...…..

This is a very complicated issue...…….

Does a quarterback get paid more than a offensive lineman?
Do all schools pay the same?

It is the end of the college system and football as we know it...…….

Not sure what the answer is but I believe they should get a cut of the profits...…...

You’re misreading this... Athletes would simply be allowed to accept commercial endorsements individually on top of their education, which is paid by the universities commercial deals and game day profits.

Commercial acting/modeling/endorsements are jobs that these kids are being restricted from, and our excuses need to stop.

We say it’s for parity, but we would cap coaches’ salaries and school expenditures on facilities if that was true.

We say it would be complicated to police, and yet we have a recruiting system in which grown men enter high schools and text 16 yr olds regularly and we seem to be policing that just fine.

The truth is that athletes should have a base compensation from their university (which they have via room, board, education, medical, etc), and should be allowed to pursue commercial endorsement work on the side.

I was not aware they have made any decision on a model. It is my understanding there are numerous models that could allow so call student athletes to cash in on their likeness. The issue is the jersey they are wearing belongs to the school.

I know. I used to play that game all off season into the next season...…….

They could name their price and I would pay it to play a new edition...…..

Personally I'm for paying players in the form of a trust fund, go pro or graduate and its your. All players on team get same pay, however, not every sport gets same pay...I'm sorry at Ohio State girls softball team does not deserve same money as football.

Tricky part is each school varies. For example, girls softball at LSU bring in more than almost and B1G program

This California bill would allow college players to hire agents, sign endorsement deals and negotiate with private companies for use of their name, image and likeness in video games, sneakers and other goods--and neither their colleges nor NCAA would be able to stop them.

This could be a game changer.
