Cincinnati Bengals 2015 - 2018 QB - Joe Burrow (Transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion)

For the regular season Joe Burrow completed 135 of 180 passes for 2,860 yards. Burrow threw 42 touchdown passes with just one interception as Athens heads into the state playoffs at 10-0.

 

Joey Burrow, QB, The Plains (Ohio) Athens: Burrow helped the Bulldogs (10-0, 6-0 Tri-Valley Ohio) finish a perfect regular season with a 48-22 win at Nelsonville-York (7-3, 5-1). Burrow completed 23 of 30 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns. He threw TD passes for 8, 36, 77 and 12 yards. Next up for fourth-seeded Athens is its OHSAA Division III Region 9 opener vs. No. 5 Granville (8-2).

 

Athens 65, Granville 14: Ohio State recruit Joe Burrow threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, Trae Williams ran for 263 yards and five TDs, and host Athens dominated Granville in a Division III regional quarterfinal game last night.

Williams, an Ohio recruit, had four touchdowns in the first half, in which Athens (11-0) led 48-14 thanks to five Granville turnovers, including three interceptions of quarterback Kyle Zies. The Bulldogs also recovered a fumble in Granville’s end zone in the second quarter.

Burrow completed 18 of 27 passes and connected twice with Heath Wiseman for touchdowns and once with Ryan Luehrman.

Jett Nye led Granville (8-3) with 63 rushing yards and two second-quarter touchdowns: an 8-yard run, and then a 28-yard reception with 21 seconds left in the half.

Michael Reed had nine receptions for 92 yards for the Blue Aces, who finished with 269 yards of offense. Athens had 599, including 340 on the ground.

Can anyone stop Joe Burrow? The Granville defense sure couldn't on Friday. In the 65-14 playoff win over Granville, Burrow completed 18 of his 27 passing attempts for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He didn't just have a fantastic game through the air, but also on the ground, rushing for 107 yards.

Playing against arguably the toughest defense he has seen all season long, Burrow might not have had his biggest game stat-wise, but played a huge role in the Athens 41-20 Division III Region 9 Semifinal victory over Tri-Valley on Friday.

Through the air, Joe completed 13 of his 19 passing attempts for 178 yards and three touchdowns, while chipping in 70 yards and another score on the ground for the Bulldogs. The senior also picked off a Tri-Valley pass playing in the defensive secondary.
