Good morning afternoon Buckeye fans! I hope everyone has been having a great Labor Day weekend as it was kicked off nicely with a great Buckeye victory on Thursday! This is something new for this year... I'm going to shed my thoughts on past games for y'all in a blog kind of way. Hopefully you guys enjoy this and I encourage you to respond!
First off, it was great to see the Buckeyes playing again. Watching that countdown ticker made it seem like the season was never going to get here.
Watching the game a couple things stood out to me. We were hitting and punishing Marshall right from the get go. On the opening kickoff, the hit by Dorian Bell was huge because that set the tone for this whole game. Not only did it change momentum but our offense responded by putting up 7 and not having to settle for a field goal.
The defense played lights out, IMO, as we held them to 44 total yards rushing, only giving up 135 yards in the air, and finishing things out with a shutout. The offense looked to be in mid-season form already as they moved the ball pretty much at will against the Herd with 529 total yards.
I was impressed with Pryor's patience in the pocket and he made some very good, on target, throws. Granted this was only Marshall... it was still very encouraging to see. I should also note that none of this is possible without the oline playing as good as they did. They gave Pryor loads of time to throw.
I'd have to give this game an A-. We played great on offense and defense but we really stumbled on special teams. Field goals looked a little shaky -- not to mention we had one blocked and returned. This will need to be cleaned up in a hurry for next weeks game against Miami.
