Legit one of worst calls I've EVER SEEN. That was a catch and fumble and gets flipped to targeting. What a joke

 

Taking a kid off the field due to a miss call should result in that ref getting suspended. Period

 

Can we finally get an end to this targeting bullcrap? Does nobody else see this for what it really is? This is about nothing other than the league trying to cover their asses from the perception that football is dangerous.

Yeah. Guess what. Football is dangerous. Get over it.

I saw this crap coming 15 years ago when they started trying to curb aggression for the name of safety. I've got no problem with trying to get rid of the unnecessary intentional overly-aggressive Vontaze Burfict crap. But they could have done it in a much more sane and sensible way. They already had unnecessary roughness fouls. They could have simply clarified that obviously intentional helmet to helmet stuff is unnecessary roughness...

Go back and watch certain highlights from 15-20 years ago and there were definitely cases where it was obviously the intent of the defender to try to hurt the other player. A certain hit on Dane Sanzenbacher by a Wisconsin defender comes to mind. The thing is, if it was obvious, then it was obvious. That's the stuff the ref should have the discretion to flag and penalize.

This automatically classifying even the slightest "above the shoulders" contact as targeting is ridiculous. Clearly not every case of that is unnecessarily rough, dangerous, or overly aggressive. Enough already. The fact that the refs aren't allowed to look at that and say, "oh that was incidental" ... that they have to say, "oh by the letter of the rule, this qualifies so we have to enforce it even though that makes literally no sense" is beyond stupid.

This rule has nothing to do with the integrity of the game, or the safety of players. It is 100% about the fact that people in football get concussions and the ninnies in our society don't like that. Where have all the grown men gone?
