Cincy's academics are not up to par with the B1G.

That would not be the reason they do not join the Big Ten........

    OSU would block this move.........

i would be devastated if cincy joined... just let the bucks be the only ones representing the state and keeping moving east towards the larger tv markets

Cincy doesn't bring any money. I would say get okla and okla st. Or get Duke and UNC.

No way. They already have Cinci tv market. Adding Cinci would just split the pie up more without any benefit. Same with Iowa State. This is not about being athletically competitive, It's about being financially competitive.

    Hmmm....
expanded TV market, elite academics, large enrollment, large and prestigious and alumni base, historical significance...

I think the next move Clemson will make is to the SEC!

i like that move but i just have a feeling that the SEC will snag Clemson eventually. i could be wrong because i never thought maryland would ever come to the big ten.

This is true, I never thought it would've happened either...

On the plus side for us Buckeyes... Stefon Diggs will get a year or two or first hand lessons on why he was a moron to choose Maryland over Ohio State :)

This has probably already been stated, but the BIG's primary motivation in all of its moves has been to expand the Big Ten's footprint nationally. Cincinnati doesn't do that at all.

    Virginia? Seriously?

That seems like a really terrible addition...

I was hoping to Ga Tech, and a big name brand (Oklahoma, Clemson, ND, etc).

Virginia just doesn't make the splash that I was hoping for.

From a football and basketball point of view I agree, but they are some solid minor sports programs, they're very sound academically, and it expands the conference into the Virginia market which would give the B1G a presence spanning from NYC all the way down south through the Eastern Metropolis and into SEC Country. So from a geographical, marketing, and academic standpoint it is a good move... but from a competitive level I agree... it weakens the B1G in football and basketball, which as we all know are the cash cow sports.

I get that... and the B1G is now the only national conference...

Big 12, is not the midwest+tx, SEC is strictly southeast, ACC is East Coast, Pac 12 is west coast, and Big East is dead...

The Big Ten has the largest geographic presence of any conference by far... It goes from the entire east coast (NYC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia) as far west as Nebraska.

I think adding Oklahoma would do more for competition as well as solidifying our presence in the midwest/south, but overall I like the direction Delaney's taking us...

I see MD, UVA, Rutgers, and Ga Tech building facilities and getting more competitive over the next few years as the money starts rolling in for them...

i like the GT move. i would rather go after va tech. you have to remember the last time there was a shift in conferences UVA had a lot to do with va tech getting in the ACC. it's smart to dip into that atlanta market. that's in the heart of SEC land. i just hope when this is all over with the big 10 cuts all ties with ABC/Espin. if you ask me Espin has too much power in college football. all they do is promote their product (SEC) on these shows. i remember seeing really bad teams on primetime on Espin and it was because the teams played in the SEC. Espin has been pissed at the big 10 ever since they started their own network.

as for the new teams like maryland, rutgers, and it ends up to be UVA and GT. those schools better start spending the money on their programs to bring them up to big ten standards. i remember hearing maryland does not have an indoor facility. the recruits these days take that stuff into consideration.
