Eh, maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Washington is 12-1.. Penn should've beaten Pitt & controlled their own destiny.. they didn't & it was up for debate, didn't go their way. If they want to be mad about it they can go look in the mirror.
Penn State didn't get cheated. They are a young team that had to play ugly to win their CCG. Say what you will about Washington, but they have won handily against every opponent they've faced except for USC. PSU lost to Pitt, and got KILLED by scUM. Add in the fact that it's 1 loss vs 2 loss, and it's pretty cut and dry imo.
I just know what I would be saying if the roles were reversed, and I can't argue against it. Yeah they lost to Pitt, but Pitt also beat Clemson.
2 losses vs 1 loss. Were getting BLOWN OUT in CCG until they went all hail mary for the 2nd half. We have 3 top 10 wins. We're ranked ahead of them in literally every poll. They beat us with a kick six, punt block, and a 30 second hurricane TD. Everyone watching that game knows who the better team is. Sometimes the better team loses. I don't see anyone arguing for Pitt to make the playoff. PSU had a great year, and earned their spot in the Rose Bowl, where they will get ass blasted by USC.
I still can't believe they came back in that game. Even their coaches body language was bad. I honestly don't think either one is great 4th team. If it were truly the best 4th team in at this part of the season it would be USC or Michigan but there is no way the committee could have got away with that. Congrats to Bama on their first round bye.
I think PSU should have gotten in...But over Washington. However, the committee ranking PSU at 7 last week and Washington at 4 made that impossible.
Simply based on being in the better conference? I haven't seen anything from PSU to suggest that they're a better team that UW...
Can we just take a moment to reflect on what a weird game that was? I don't believe in "Football gods". I believe there is only one God who is sovereign over even the outcome of football games, though, and it really did seem like he wanted Ohio State to lose that game so badly he moved heaven and earth to make it happen. Ultimately he doesn't NEED to move heaven and earth for a football game to go the way he wants it to. Every football game goes the way he wants it to. But it was really strange the way that one seemed so dramatic.
I kinda with AZ...I really thought PSU had no chance to get. In 14 I didn't think we were going to get in and we dominated our conference championship game. To make the jump PSU needed it to be an overwhelming victory, not a team that got down 28-7. I just couldn't see them dropping another B1G team in the playoffs with such a close game...good game, but not a dominating one. I'm with the chorus who think they got it right with what they had to work with.
PSU has played six teams (2, 6, 8, 21, 22, 23) that are currently ranked in the AP top25 and went 4-2, including a win over #2 and won the toughest conference in all of college football this year. Lost to #6 and #22 Washington has played three teams (9, 11, 16) that are currently ranked in the AP top25 and went 2-1, losing to #9. PSU non-conference: Kent State 22 Pitt 23 Temple Washington non-conference Rutgers Idaho Portland State Better win - PSU Better Loss - Washington Strength of Schedule - PSU Won Conference - Both PSU's loss to Pitt is what killed them. However, I feel teams can improve a great deal from week 2, i.e. Ohio State in 2014.
^ I understand the argument for Penn. What did we jump up from when we blew out Wisky in the CC to make playoffs? I just don't see how the committee could justify dropping Wash out of 4 after whipping Colorado in the CC & Penn jumping up to their spot from 7. The Pitt loss did kill Penn's chances. 12-1 11-2
