Greg Schiano Updates + Schiano said he's seen the reach of the Buckeyes while recruiting by seeing the Block O all over the country. + While he hasn't had a ton of time to work with his fellow defensive coaches yet, Schiano is excited to work with these guys from the little time he's spent with them. + Schiano said he watched all of Ohio State's tape from last year. Doesn't want to change things, but add to an already good defense. + "You need followers, they're not all leaders." Schiano said they better be the best followers though. + Schiano calls CB Gareon Conley a tremendous player. Said Malik Hooker has all the skills in the world and it will be great to have an experienced player like Cam Burrows back in the secondary. + Schiano said it's important to get diverse players on defense because it's hard to substitute against many offenses and players have to be able to do multiple things. + On the defense, Schiano said they have to replace some very good players but have good players ready to step in. The coaches just have to get those guys ready. + On the state of New Jersey, Schiano said he found while at Rutgers that kids wanted to get away from home. Now he's at Ohio State. + The new co-defensive coordinator said, while it had been a while since he recruited, no coach forgets how to recruit. Said he loves doing.

If new Ohio State DC Greg Schiano can teach, oversee and adapt like Chris Ash, the Silver Bullets should reload: https://t.co/TbAhTVwWG7— Land-Grant Holy Land (@Landgrant33) April 25, 2016

Current OSU DC and former Penn State assistant Schiano denies allegation in Sandusky deposition. https://t.co/s5WwNR47Be— Bill Rabinowitz 🗞 (@brdispatch) July 12, 2016 Testimony: Greg Schiano, Tom Bradley knew of Sandusky abuse at Penn State - USA Today
McQueary: Bradley told him Schiano came into office "white as a ghost and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower."— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) July 12, 2016
The accusation, on two levels of hearsay: 20-something-year-old, newly promoted position coach (Schiano) witnesses a sexual assault of a boy by his Defensive Coordinator (Sandusky). Instead of confronting the Coordinator, the assistant takes the story to his direct superior (Tom Bradley). Nothing is done, Schiano is out of the program within the next few years. I don't see how you consider firing a guy based on this 25 years later. As much as I want to say that there's no way in hell I wouldn't have done more than Schiano did (assuming the story is true), he was not in a position of power in this situation. He didn't perpetrate the offense, he reported the offense. He could've done more, yes, but the onus of removing Sandusky from the program was on the more senior members of the staff and Joe Paterno. I don't expect this to be a continuing story for Ohio State.
Assuming it's true.. I would have dragged him out of that shower while he's butt booty naked and beat his face into the back of his head. Go ahead, fire me, I'm going to tell the world why I did it too.
The anti-Ohio State people out there will do their damnedest to make it an Ohio State story. Schiano could still get blame for not reporting what he (allegedly) saw to authorities once he realized his superiors at PSU weren't doing anything about it. If it gets to that point then i'd say there's no choice but to let him go because the negative press would be too much of a distraction in a year where OSU has a lot of work to do with a young team.
It may not have been that easy back then. Remember how untouchable and powerful Joe Pa was before all this went public. His image was a person of the highest integrity and nobody would've believed a young coach nobody knew, especially in a time with no camera phones. Remember when accusations of PSU football players assaulting students on campus was all over ESPN? Joe Pa got interviewed and in a very arrogant way shot down any accusations of misbehavior by his players. Nobody in major college football graduated more players than Joe Pa and he had done countless charitable things, nobody dared accuse Joe Pa and his program of any wrong doing.
Schiano is in a terrible position because he cannot prove this did not happen and now he is involved in this continuing story..... I am now sure what to believe but I do think it is possible a young coach saw something and reported it to a legend and did not question why nothing happen........
