    Spellman Transferring Out of State
Speaking of Spellman – whom Ohio State showed preliminary interest in when assistant coach Greg Paulus scouted one of his games – the former North Royalton big man is heading to Massachusetts.

As first reported by Cleveland.com's David Cassilo, Spellman is in the process of transferring to the MacDuffie School (Granby, Mass.). Had Spellman, who originally transferred to North Royalton from New York, stayed in Ohio, there was a chance he'd be ruled ineligible for his senior season. Apparently, Massachusetts has more lenient transfer rules than the OHSAA.

I wrote about Spellman in February, and his former head coach described him as a stretch-four and, in general, a dangerous offensive weapon.

"Everybody is looking for a big guy who can step out and shoot. He's a very good shooter for his size and his position," said North Royalton coach Tim Matus. "He's exactly what colleges are looking for, as far as a skill set to be able to do that."

Since Spellman plays AAU ball for Team SCAN in New York, his basketball ties to Ohio are now severed. Question now, is: will Ohio State continue to pursue Spellman?

VJ King and Omari Spellman are some top tier players in Ohio. I like the Funderburk kid too. Reminds me of Lauderdale.

UCLA offers top 30 big man
2016 post player Omari Spellman picked up another offer Tuesday. This time from UCLA.

Spellman, 6-8, 270-pounds from North Royalton (Ohio) MacDuffie School, made a major impression on the travel circuit with his skilled game to go along with his ability to control space.

Cincinnati, Ohio State and Villanova are considered his leaders with the Buckeyes controlling the Crystal Ball.

Spellman is ranked No. 27 by 247Sports and No. 24 in the 247Sports Composite.

Omari Spellman: The 6'10" MacDuffie School junior went head to head with the more heralded Thon Maker and simply outplayed him. At his best, Spellman demonstrated a true inside-outside game reminiscent of a lesser version of Derrick Coleman. Spellman, who has improved his conditioning, has a soft touch with range out to the three-point line, but normally doesn't make the mistake of underestimating, the strength of his game: his low-post skills. Although not an elite athlete, Spellman uses his frame to create space and upper-body strength to overcome more athletic or even taller defenders. Because of his ability to shoot at all three levels and make up to two dribbles in traffic, he's a major problem to defend in pick-and-pop situations. His relative lack of conditioning and the consistency of his effort level, particularly on the defensive end, have plagued Spellman in the past, but, at least in the two games in Providence, he was able temporarily to allay those concerns
