Sorry but I know he is a solid assistant coach, but this guy does not know what he is doing half of the time! At least against teams that spread it out. This year's NC game was about execution and skeem as opposed to speed and quickness.

It seemed that Heacock did not know what he is doing not to mention did not make any adjustments.

I think it is time Tressel allowed Fickell to take over and see if he can change things around.

For those that think this was about speed and quickness, help is on the way. Tressel recognized the problem last year and has went out and got Sabino and Howard from the same HS, not to mention Thomas from Maryland, although he probably will play Offense. For next year's recruiting class we have a lot of the nation's top talent looking at us so that is good news. There was no quick fix to the speed and quickness problems last year against Florida, but Tressel recognized it and is working on the problem.

Heacock made adjustments....Look at the massive improvement in the second half. We held them to 4 and 23!!!!!! Then gave it away!!!! That wasn't Heacock's fault. Other then that, our defense was on the field non stop and LSU just kept dinking and dunking all the way to the end zone. I also didn't see LSU spread the field all that much, and if anything there setup that caused us the most problems was a 3-4 rec. bunch with a TE split on the other side.

There's gotta be some adjustments made with this staff goin into next year... don't kno who should get the boot, but something should be done. I'd go with the OC 1st and see where that takes us. Go after some hot up n Commin OC who is known for recruitin as well. Gotta start somewhere tho.

I think Heacock shoud be gone too... Our guys are out there reacting rather than flying to the ball. We're never the ones driving through the other player, we're waiting to see what they do, then holding on. Our defense hasn't been the same since D'antonio left.

I completely disagree. Heacock has been a great coach. You don't win coach of the year by sitting on your bum all year long and making poor decisions. I have to lay this one on the players. Poor execution on what looked to be pretty good play calling. Where would LSU have been if we hadn't been penalized with ghost late foul penalties and personal fouls. I think that game goes in another direction with us holding up the crystal ball and our vaunted defense still feeling proud to be the number one defense in the land.

You gotta give some credit to LSU for keeping their heads in the game when they went down 10-0. We panicked when they caught up and lost our heads. Those are dumb decisions make by the players and the coaches were smart enough to take the players in question out of the game until they had cooled off a little bit.

Mark D'antonio (sp?) really knew how to coach a defense.

you can't blame Heacock on all the missed tackles. there were more yards gained after missed tackles than before any hit. disgraceful. the fundamentals were very poor and that's not the coaches fault.

I take nothing away from LSU they executed perfectly.

Mark Snyder was a good Dcoordinator. Lets not judge him by his ineffectiveness at Marshall as HC.

Bollman is going nowhere. He is very close to Tressel and his philosophy by having the Olineman know another position on the line has paid its dividends. I can't wait to see Adams, Brewster, Shugarts, maybe Jenkins, and Mewhort(c/o 2009) work in his system.

I stand by my call to fire Heacock. I know he was Assistant coach of the year but the different formations and spreading out, it just does not seem he knows how to deal with it.

But maybe this one wasn't on the coaches, not so much on the players as well. Maybe it was lack of senior leadership. Only three seniors starting! God I hope to hell little Animal, Gohlston, and Jenkins stay. Man we are going to be Tough next year, no matter how the coordinators are!

No no we should not fire Tressel, maybe not even Heacock. But there needs to be a change in the skeems and adjustments with the defense. Heacock is the dline coach and his line has played very well. But as a coordinator he seems to be lost at times. A change is in order.

I think we ultimately need to recruit faster players at the skill position. Look at the Florida and LSU teams and there players.

Look at Sabino Howard and Thomas. Those guys are fast and almost everyone thought Sabino was going to Miami, Florida, or LSU but he is coming to OSU. Tressel noticed problems last year in the NC game against the Gators. There was no quick fix, we had holes to fill in this years recruiting class. But we got a these guys and are high on a bunch of lists for next year. If I were JT I would tell this kids for next years class we need help with quickness. I think that could be a good selling point.

Thomas should be used like Gamble if he is as good as they say he is.

I skipped everyone's comments, so I'm probably repeating what someone else said. And I also said this in another thread, but I don't think scheme was as much the problem this year. They did an excellent job of getting to the ball. The problem was fundamentals. And I don't know if that goes back to Heacock, or if it's a 51 day thing, but this team just could not tackle. Even Little Animal had to grab a facemask once. It's ridiculous. We need to tackle better in the open field. We need to get a drill going that will help that. You can't coach speed, but you can coach the kinds of things that negate speed, and speed doesn't mean anything if you have nowhere to go.

I completely agree! Why do we as fans have to always think that the answer is firing a coach??? Our defense completely stunk on Monday. Our Dline did NOTHING!!!!! Our LB's couldn't do anything until at least 5 yards down the field, and then they barely made the tackles. Stupid personal foul penalties ruined the game....

how are any of these things the fault of Heacock??? I HATE how people always jump to hanging a coach! Take a look at what actually happened in the game.

Also with everyone saying to get rid of the OC Bollman, he is the OC but the man calling the plays is and always has been Tressel as far as I know. Should we get rid of him then?

LSU certainly didn't hurt us when they spreaded out. Our players were in great possition 90% of that game. The biggest problems came when LSU went into hurry-up. The players couldn't communicate with the coaches, and the players forgot about the tight end in a bunch WR formation.

LSU did a great job of exploiting the LBs by running the ball up the middle, creating the play action opportunities.

The only thing I take away from the Buckeye coaching staff Monday night is maybe the lack of touches for Brandon Saine (and was Mo Wells still injured?). LSU's DT did a great job plugging the middle for the most part. I would've like to see us attack the outside a bit more.. ... How hard is it to run a screen to Small?

here's my question. why don't we ever man up on anyone???? we have to players to do it. all we do is play zone, zone, and more zone!!! don't get me wrong i love zone but it's useless when the d line doesn't get any pressure. 2 years in a row the defense didn't play good football in the national championship. there is obviously something wrong. till we don't figure that out the spread will still give us fits and we won't win a national championship against a good offensive team.

I avoided this thread for as long as I could, but now I can't stand it. Why in the hell would we fire Jim Heacock? The players love him, he was the national asst. coach of the year, and he has recruited and developed calibur NFL talent. Since he has been Def. Coord., tOSU has been in the top 10 in total defense every year. It's Heacock's fault the players committed 5 personal fouls? It's Heacock's fault Boeckman doesn't know how to lead a WR instead of underthrowing him? Take away the momentum killing penalties and we stood up to LSU's offense and we held our ground.

By the way bro.....it's SCHEME, not SKEEM.
