Director of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni

Mark Pantoni is in his second season as the Ohio State football program's director of player personnel. In this position Pantoni supervises all aspects of the program's administrative duties for recruiting, including on-campus official and unofficial visits, budgeting, travel and database management.

"Mark has proven abilities at organizing recruiting efforts and in building relationships with prospects and their families," Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer has said. "I have seen how well he understood recruiting in the state of Florida and nationally, and I am certain his efforts are going to be well-received in the state of Ohio. He is one of the hardest working people I have been around."

In less than two years, Pantoni's administration skills have helped Ohio State secure two Top 5 recruiting classes, with the 2012 rated as high as No. 3 by Scout and No. 4 by Rivals (and also No. 6 by ESPN and No. 7) and the 2013 No. 1 by Scout, No. 2 by Rivals and 247Sports and No. 6 by ESPN.

Pantoni started in his Ohio State position in December 2011 after working at the University of Florida for the past five years. He had direct responsibilities as a recruiting program coordinator for the two seasons, including serving as Florida's director of football administration from March 2011 through the end of the 2011 regular season.

Pantoni also helped with Florida's highly successful summer camp showcase, Friday Night Lights. One of the best-known on-campus summer camps, this one-night event was held under the lights in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with music and highlight videos on the scoreboard. The idea has already been replicated in Columbus as well.

A Florida native, Pantoni grew up in Sarasota and attended the University of Florida. He has both bachelor's (Summa Cum Laude; 2004) and master's (2006) degrees from Florida in applied physiology and kinesiology.

Pantoni's wife, the former Kristin O'Berry, is also a Florida native (Jacksonville) and a University of Florida graduate.

Pantoni The Hidden Hero of OSU Recruiting

Urban Meyer believes recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. His coaching staff travels the country talking to high school kids, but the man behind the curtain is Mark Pantoni, Ohio Stateâ€™s Director of Player Personnel.

Like recruiting is the lifeblood of the program, Pantoni is the life blood of the Buckeyesâ€™ recruiting effort. He scouts, contacts, and forms relationships with the players then works hard to bring them to Ohio State.

Pantoni is key to the OSUâ€™s three-straight top five recruiting classes.

â€œI don't know how to quantify it,â€ offensive coordinator Tom Herman said. â€œHe's invaluable. He's worth whatever they're paying him. He's worth that times two.â€

Fans may recognize his name from his Twitter account, but he his job is much more than that.

â€œHe does a phenomenal job of not only the things that you guys see â€“ the fun stuff on Twitter, the 'Boom', the 'Swaggernaut', all of that cool stuff,â€ Herman said. â€œBut what he does is he picks up a lot of the slack from us during the season because we're so immersed in the season and coaching our guys and getting ready to play games on Saturdays.â€

Pantoni is typically the point man for recruits, the first person they come in contact with from Ohio State. He reaches out to the players to begin to form a bond that will hopefully lead them to Columbus.

â€œI would probably describe it as an everyday relentless battle of building relationships,â€ Pantoni described his job.
