Reed Sheppard – ’23 SG North Laurel/KY: While Rolf was the somewhat under-the-radar performer for Midwest Basketball Club’s 17u team, every college coach, scout and media member came into the event wanting to get eyes on Reed Sheppard to see his progress as a prospect. Sheppard had some games where all his shots fell and some where it didn’t, but he, along with 2023 backcourt running mate Gabe Cupps, was dialed in all weekend in leading his team to their 6-0 record. Sheppard gets most of his praise as a shot-maker who can use his athletic ability to create a mid-range shot for himself or attack the rim and finish; however, it’s his ability to defend either guard spot and his active presence as a help-side defender creating steals which college coaches talk about the most. At 6’2, Sheppard is one of the premiere athletes on the travel circuit at the guard position, and, combined with his scoring prowess and defensive acumen he’s going to continue to see his name mentioned by national recruiting sites on their top-100 ranking boards. Sheppard’s recruitment also took the next step forward this weekend, as he added offers from Kentucky and Indiana to a list that already included schools like Louisville and Arizona State.

Basketball Bucks offer four-star combo guard Much talk has centered around the Ohio State football team since the start of June, and rightfully so. Ryan Day has led Ohio State to an incredible start for the 2022 recruiting class as the Buckeyes sit atop of the 247Sports recruiting rankings. However, Chris Holtmann and the basketball Buckeyes are also hard at work on the recruiting trail. The Buckeyes currently sit at No. 2 in the 2022 recruiting rankings with three verbal commitments, and are looking to close out the class by securing a commitment from the ever-elusive “big man.” Which, by the looks of it, may happen sooner than later. With the class almost being finalized, the team has the privilege of getting a head start on the 2023 class. The staff has already sent out double-digit scholarships in next year’s class and the trend continued Monday when they offered one of the nation’s top talents. Reed Sheppard took to Twitter on Monday to announce he has received an official scholarship offer from the Buckeyes. The four-star Kentucky native combo guard has received nearly a dozen offers from some of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball programs despite still having two years of high school ball to play. Hailing from Kentucky, the Wildcats are the early favorite to earn a commitment from Sheppard, and Holtmann and the Buckeyes will need to throw the kitchen sink at him if they wish to have him in Columbus. But, Holtmann has already proved to be one of the top recruiters in college basketball and Ohio State is within close proximity of him too. Albeit, not as close as the Wildcats. Sheppard is the No. 53 recruit in the 2023 recruiting class and is the No. 12 CG in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is also the No. 3 prospect from the state of Kentucky.
