    Quarterbacks Continue to Battle

Cardale Jones once again took ever rep with the first team. He was more accurate today than he was a week ago, though they were focused more on short and intermediate passes.

He was protected fairly well on the day, though defensive tackle Michael Bennett did get to him from the blind side once, knocking the ball out of his hand in the process. Bennett's sack came when Billy Price was at center with the ones. Noah Spence also got a sack, racing around right tackle Darryl Baldwin.

Jones' ability as a powerful runner is negated in practice as he can be "tackled" by a single touch. When he gets going, however, it is hard to imagine him being tackled by a single hand.

Safety Tyvis Powell intercepted Jones when he stepped in front of a route by receiver Michael Thomas. It was difficult to tell if the throw was off target, or if Thomas stopped his route short.

J.T. Barrett had two very good moments in the aforementioned touchdowns to Marcus Baugh, but he also threw a couple of interceptions and put the ball on the ground two or three times.

He showed good burst in the running game, but like Jones, he is not a live runner and is brought down with simply a touch.

    2. Urban Meyer has a backup quarterback

Although neither had a high completion percentage, both quarterbacks showed promise. At points in the game they both stood in the pocket and made throws down the field. J.T. Barrett had a solid first half, completing 15-27 passes for 112 yards. He showed the mobility necessary to play in an Urban Meyer offense as well. After some first half jitters, Cardale Jones began to go through his progressions, throwing the ball to his third or fourth option more than once. Remember, these quarterbacks are both backups and therefore will not be perfect, but both showed improvement from the reps they received in the spring.

    1. Is there a quarterback that can step in for an injured Braxton Miller and lead the team to a victory?
Urban Meyer and Tom Herman were complimentary of Cardale Jones throughout the spring, but whenever we saw him he was a bit erratic with the football, and that includes the short and intermediate passes as well. Could Jones step in for Miller and get a win? Sure, as the Buckeyes will be significantly better than most of their opponents. Can he do it against some of OSU's better opponents? I don't think there's an answer for that. The running game will be there, but eventually there has to be a passing game to complement it. Is that something that maybe J.T. Barrett is better suited for? That's another unanswered question.

Our Third team QB took the first team O right down the field and scored against the secondary? Ugh! Thanksfully there are 3 more weeks of practice!!

Take it with grain of salt. Offenses always have upper hand in camp. I think we'll be just fine
