when do you think he is gonna recommit to the buckeyes. this kid is supposed to be amazing and with sullinger already committed 2010 is looking to be a freakishly amazing class. i think it is cool that these kids are in my grade and the're already committing to OSU

Im mixed on this one. I think now that he will wait till atleast his junior year to decide. I hope he still comes here but with calvin burning up the phone lines it will be hard for him. Hopefully he has the willpower to say no and sticks with his original team he chose.

Thomas, Knights in search of another championship

Just in time to win a Class 2A state championship, the Bishop Luers boys basketball team turned around the notion that they were only a one-man team. A repeat title will take more of the same.

Junior superstar Deshaun Thomas returns for the Knights (24-3 last year), and he is bringing along three other starters in a quest for back-to-back championships.

Thomas off to hot start
Bishop Luers junior Deshaun Thomas is averaging 40 points after the first two games of the season and could be the all-time leading scorer in Fort Wayne before Christmas.

Thomas has scored 42 and 38 points in the two wins against Woodlan and Bowman Academy.He now has 1,533 career points.

Thomas is located in Matta's backyard in Indiana.........he has a ton of contacts and is well respected in the area.........that is why he has been successful in Indiana to this point.

I just find it amazing how good of a recruiter Thad has been. He's consistently bring in top talent to Ohio State and seems to really have a good on court relationship with his players.

I think Matta believes at tOSU we can consistently win and the resources are there.........he has proven he can get it done at a football school.....I don't think he would leave unless a job at UNC, Duke or UCLA opened up......

On a day when Bishop Luers’ depth was enhanced with the return of two seniors from suspensions, one name again stood alone. And his number happens to be No. 1 as well.

Knights junior Deshaun Thomas scored 45 points in a 91-76 home win Friday over South Side and tied the school career scoring record with 1,588 points.

Thomas shares the record with Rachel King (1997-2001).

“I am here just for my teammates,” said Thomas, who had 19 rebounds. “I don’t really care about the records. I am just here to win ballgames.”

Thomas started slowly with six points in the first quarter, but turned it on with 16 in the second, 12 in the third and 11 in the fourth. He made 17 of 34 from the field.

Thomas moving up list
Bishop Luers junior Deshaun Thomas seemingly gets another milestone every game.

And he continues to climb up the list of career scoring leaders in Allen County.

With his 31 points Saturday against Lawrence North, Thomas moved into fourth place with 1,620 career points, passing former South Side star Willie Long (1,606).

Thomas needs four points against Chicago Curie on Saturday at Loyola (Chicago) to get to third place, overtaking ex-Concordia standout Tom Baack (1,623).

Thomas, who is averaging 36 points per game, is fast approaching the top two in Elmhurst grad James Hardy (1,823) and North Side's Eshaunte Jones (1,759).

Curieâ€™s balance offset Thomasâ€™ one-man show. Thomas, a 6-7 junior guard who has committed to Ohio State, is considered by recruiting analysts as the top underclassman prospect in Indiana. He scored 14 in the second half, but Curie harassed him into 3-of-11 shooting from the floor in the final quarter.

Luers' Thomas sets scoring markNets 43 in SAC semifinal

The records continue to fall for Deshaun Thomas.
This time, the Bishop Luers junior forward scored a SAC tournament-record 43 points in the Knights' 62-54 win over Bishop Dwenger in the semifinals Saturday at Wayne.
The No. 2 seed and defending tournament champion Knights face No. 1 Snider in the championship game Saturday night.
Thomas' 43 points broke the 28-year-old record of 42, set by South Side's John Flowers in 1980. He got the record with two free throws with 7.6 seconds remaining.
The Saints had an intense and physical game plan with the 6-foot-7 Thomas, but eventually all that did was send him to the free-throw line, where he converted on 24 of 29 attempts. He made 19 free throws in the second half.

Knights stop Hawk rallies
Harding works as a team, but Bishop Luers prevails.

On paper perhaps this didn't look like much of a contest. But Bishop Luers boys basketball coach James Blackmon knew better.
The Class 2A No. 4 Knights (5-2) were the prohibitive favorite entering Friday's SAC Holiday Basketball Tournament contest with Harding, which had lost four of its first five games. Try telling that to either Blackmon or the Hawk players.
“It feels good to move on,” Blackmon said. “Harding is a great team. I thought (Harding coach Al Gooden) did a good job tonight. They did a good job of clogging that middle up.”
Harding (1-5) continually made runs after falling behind early, but ultimately, Bishop Luers made enough plays to advance to today's round with a 73-71 win. The Knights will face Bishop Dwenger (4-0) at 2:15 p.m. at Wayne High School, while Snider (4-0) will battle North Side (6-1) at 12:30 p.m.
Bishop Luers may have the ultimate trump card in junior Deshaun Thomas (21 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three blocks), who can kill you inside and out.

Did Bishop Luers beat Snider in the finals of the SAC boys tournament or did the Knights simply outlast the Panthers?
Luers defended its tournament title with a 66-57 victory in the championship game Saturday at Wayne in a ragtag game that wrapped up a hectic week for both teams.
The Knights had to play three games in the last 24 hours, while the Panthers played 2 1/2 games in the same period.

After a record-setting semifinal game, Luers junior standout Deshaun Thomas showed some physical effects, including cramping in the fourth quarter. He finished with a season-low 18 points against the Panthers.

Bishop Luers junior Deshaun Thomas scored all 12 of his team's points in the first quarter, but only scored two points in each of the next two quarters while the Knights went on that 30-15 stretch. The junior phenom was averaging 31.8 points per game coming into Friday's contest and still finished with 26. But the Knights again proved they're more than just a one-man team.

Two of Fort Wayneâ€™s best boys basketball players met last year while attending a high school dunk contest.

And James Hardy, 2004 Elmhurst graduate, NFL receiver and current career boys scoring record-holder, gave Deshaun Thomas, Bishop Luers junior and future record-holder, some advice.

But it had little to do with scoring.

â€œHe told me to keep doing my thing, keep my grades up and keep working hard and then the skyâ€™s the limit and my dreams will come true,â€ Thomas said Wednesday.
