    A New 2020 Offer
As of now, three-star power forward Zed Key doesn't have a recruiting ranking that would turn anybody's head. Per the 247Sports composite rankings, he's the No. 291 overall prospect in the 2020 class.

But it's fair to expect that to quickly change.

Key headed down from New York to Charlottesville, Virginia, last week to participate in the famed NBPA Top 100 Camp, an event showcasing some of the top high school basketball players from across the nation. For a portion of the six-day camp, college coaches were allowed into the gym to watch the action in person, and they saw Key shine. He averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in four games. Corey Evans of Rivals called him "the camp's top rebounder and most efficient scorer."

Less than a week has passed since the camp ended, and Key has already heard from more than a dozen college programs, per NY Jayhawks executive director and Long Island Lutheran assistant coach Jay David.

“He was a top-150 kid most of his high school career,” David told Eleven Warriors. “Took a little bit of a step back last year. He's continued to be uber-talented and will probably stay that way. It's just that he's continued to work really, really hard and show his work ethic, and people are now seeing it. That stage that he was on is not a small stage. That's a big-time stage to be able to come on board and do the things that he was doing. I think it's just the fact that people were able to see him, able to see his new and improved changes.”

Key (6-foot-8, 230 pounds) held offers from Florida, Cincinnati and others before the camp. And in the days following his performance at the camp, he has added more than an offer per day, earning them from Pittsburgh, TCU, South Florida, Rhode Island, Boston College, Wisconsin and Marquette.

Ohio State jumped into the mix, extending an offer to Key on Wednesday.

“(Ohio State has) talked to him a lot after (the camp),” David said. “Before, it wasn't as much. That's OK. It's part of learning and understanding who each one of these people are and trying to have a better judge.”

Like other schools, David said, Key's motor and efficiency impressed the Buckeyes' coaching staff, which was in attendance in Charlottesville.

“The fact that he plays super hard, and that he has been able to not only show that he plays super hard, but because he has a very good feel for the game, he's been able to show that on a consistent level as well,” David said. “And I think that's what they really like.”

Ohio State has not yet discussed the possibility of Key taking a visit to Columbus, per David. But it has extended offers to a few other big men in recent weeks, indicating an interest in taking one in its 2020 class.

Playing for Long Island Lutheran, one of the top teams in the country, Key played starter minutes off the bench and helped his team claim a state championship.

His biggest contributions come as a big-bodied post scorer who thrives inside but can extend his game beyond the high school 3-point arc, David said.

“He's always been a terrific scorer,” David said. “I think Zed is probably one of the best scoring power forwards in the entire country. There are very few people who have his patience and his footwork, high school 3-point line and in. He can still shoot that ball and kill you on the block a little bit. I think, it's just people now understanding and seeing that.”

    Three-star power forward Zed Key
No. 291 overall, No. 47 power forward – Glen Head, New York

After impressing at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June, Key received a bunch of offers, including one from Ohio State that came on June 19. Since his camp performance in front of college coaches, Notre Dame, Georgia, USC, Providence, St. John's, Virginia Tech, Marquette, Wisconsin, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Rhode, Island, South Florida and TCU have all extended offers.

With so many options suddenly appearing, Key will have to eventually trim his list, which he hasn't yet. He also hasn't publicized any upcoming visits. Key did, though, mention Ohio State as one of the 11 teams he speaks with most in a recent interview with Stockrisers. To have a chance with the 6-foot-8, 215-pound power forward, they Buckeyes will need to secure a visit from him in the upcoming couple months.
