Gah, I would hate to lose him AND Hazell..
Seems to be nothing more than another internet rumor.................Fickell and Miami have had no contact...............
I didn't know the Miami job came open! Haywood has been only there two years. And has done an amazing job I might add!
Yep, that's why Pitt hired him as their HC. Ha
whew...........would have hated to lose Fickell..........
I am starting to think he doesn't want to leave tOSU yet. Waiting for what JT does, then position himself for the HC position with the next coach.
If Fickell wants to be HC at OSU he will need to leave the program and become a HC somewhere else....................I think he likes his situation here and is comfortable.........
Well hold on. Haywood just got arrested and I would have to say he is probably going to be out at Pitt. HA! Take that Mark May!
I heard he just got fired
HC Luke Fickell
thoughts on the Buckeye HC for next year?
i like the idea of getting him experiance and see how good he can be, but i also hate how the AD handled it. why?
Fickell is on a 1 year contract as a HC, Coaches all over the country will use that and say "Oh not only is Ohio St going to be on probation and possibly bow ban, but their HC might not even be your HC"
i think we should have given him a 2-3 year deal, or none at all. it will be hard for him to recruit because kids want to play for the same coach, not a coach who may not even be on the staff next year (since if we hire a outsider as a HC he may not want Fickell)
on the other hand, it will be great experiance, im expecting a bad year by our standards (8-9 wins) but if he can get 10 or more i think it locks him up the job for a few years, and being only 36-37 he can have the job for a very long time if he wants it. not to mention he's already at his alma matter so you dont have to worry about another school comming in and swooping him up for that reason.
A one year or until the end of the year contract for an interim coach who just took over due to the sudden termination of someone ahead of him is standard operating procedure. I don't read anything into it.
i wish luke well this season. they guy and the program needs the support of buckeye nation!
He is now our guy, I support him 100%.
I wonder when he will make his first public statement since all that has happened.
Actuay standard procedure is to hire a new HC when the season is 3 months away, not naming a first time HC a 1 year job
Fickell's first order of business: "Ohio State Football now has a strick no-tattoo policy"
I'm curious to see if Fickell still follow the plan that Tressel laid out or if he institutes how he sees fit to run it.
You would be right if they'd dismissed him right after the bowl game, but they've lost a ton of time when it comes to finding a new coach. They won't have time to adequately vet their applicants and go through interviews before we'd be well into preparations for the next season. He would barely be able to get prepared for summer camp. The first game would be upon him before he was ready. Makes much more sense to put a guy like Fickel in there at least short term. He's been with the team. He knows the players. He knows the system. He was already preparing to take over for five games in Tressel's absence. Let him stay on for the rest of the season and see how he does.
Fickell got Kyle Kalis to change his mind from de-committing in a 56 minute conversation with him last night and picked up a verbal today from Tyvis Powell. If he can continue to be a solid recruiter, I think he may be able to hold onto the job. OSU has only had 4 coaches in the last 55 years. They will probably give Fickell a fair shot.
