    JUST A LITTLE DELAY

Ellenwood, Georgia, Cedar Grove four-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood was set to visit Ohio State this weekend, but as things so often do in this fickle business, those plans have changed.

“I'm going [to Ohio State] next weekend,” Haselwood told Eleven Warriors. “Coach [Urban] Meyer is going to be there.”

It would be one thing if Haselwood ditched the Buckeyes in favor of the Crimson Tide. But it certainly makes more sense for your head coach to be present when you're hosting the second-best receiver in the Class of 2019 and he's close to a commitment.

    IN CASE YOU FORGOT

Ohio State is set to host Ellenwood, Georgia, Cedar Grove four-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood for an unofficial visit this weekend.

"Can't wait," Haselwood told Eleven Warriors.

This will be only the second trip to campus for the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Haselwood, who is considered the second-best receiver and No. 10 prospect overall in the Class of 2019. It's a rather important visit, too, as he plans to make a decision on his future shortly thereafter.

"[I'm looking forward] to meeting up with the coaches and players,” Haselwood said. “I love the environment.”

Haselwood is expected to choose between Georgia and Ohio State, though he took a trip to Alabama last weekend for the Crimson Tide's Junior Day. Things have been trending toward the Bulldogs for a while, but the Buckeyes could certainly find themselves in the lead in the coming days.

    Jadon Haselwood visit ends
The nation’s second-ranked 2019 wide receiver visited Ohio State this weekend.

Georgia’s Jadon Haselwood told Land of 10 on Friday that this weekend’s trip was designed to help him come closer to a decision between Ohio State and the home-state Georgia Bulldogs.

“I’m just trying to see what the coaching staff is like and how I would fit in there, really,” Haselwood said of the trip, which began Friday. “I told myself I was going to wait (to commit) until I got back to Ohio State.”

Now his visit is over, and as expected he didn’t commit to the Buckeyes. Two different sources who spent time with the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Cedar Grove (Ellenwood) product said they feel things are moving in a positive direction for Ohio State.

“He’s really cool,” one source shared. “Seemed like he really enjoyed himself. I think he’s very interested.”

Haselwood – and 4-star defensive end Brenton Cox — arrived at Ohio State on Friday. They stayed on campus with current football players, taking in campus life and playing video games, etc. Haselwood couldn’t handle Buckeyes freshman Austin Mack in NBA 2K17, apparently.

“He beat me on Friday night,” Haselwood joked.

The second source I spoke with about the trip echoed the sentiment of the first.

“I was with Jadon most of the time,” the second source added. “The trip went great. There’s a real shot he picks Ohio State.”

The Buckeyes and the Bulldogs are both on the hook as this 2019 star gets back home and locks down a choice. It’s always hard to beat the in-state team, unless the in-state team is Kansas or something, so don’t get too confident about Ohio State being the choice. But this visit was not just for fun.

Add Jadon Haselwood for Friday Night Lights

Ohio State will get another chance to impress 4-star 2019 wide receiver Jadon Haselwood. The Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, Ga.) standout has visited Columbus three times, and he’ll make his fourth trip for Friday Night Lights. He’ll accompany Brenton Cox.

Since committing to Georgia in March (Ohio State was the assumed runner-up), things have slowed down considerably on the recruiting front for Haselwood. That’s exactly what he wanted.

“Everything has been really good,” Haselwood told Land of 10. “Things have gone exactly how I wanted them to go. Life has been a lot less stressful.”

A visit to Ohio with his good friend isn’t likely to add stress. Haselwood’s commitment to the Bulldogs appears solid, and the 6-foot-3, 180-pound junior-to-be continues to be a leader in Georgia’s “True ’19” movement.

That said, any visit is a chance for the Buckeyes to continue building their relationship with Haselwood and is important enough to mention. This is a big-time player heading to Columbus.

    POTENTIAL FLIPPAGE?

Ohio State may have lost a battle earlier this spring for Ellenwood, Georgia, Cedar Grove five-star wide receiver commit Jadon Haselwood, but the Bulldog commit hasn't shut down his recruitment entirely, as he told Eleven Warriors he'll also attend Friday Night Lights this weekend.

“I'm there,” Haselwood said. “It's exciting for me because I haven't been there in several months.”

Much like his good friend Brenton Cox — though it came with a different result — the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Haselwood went back and forth for quite some time between the Buckeyes and Bulldogs before committing to the latter in March. He'd only taken two visits to Columbus, but formed a strong bond with Meyer and wide receivers coach Zach Smith nonetheless.

It wasn't enough for him to give Ohio State his pledge at the time, but certainly makes him a candidate to be flipped if the Bulldogs continue to underwhelm on the field.

Athlon Sports' Steven Lassan, Mitch Light and Mark Ross named Oklahoma freshman WR Jadon Haselwood their preseason pick for "Top Freshman" in the Big 12.
Haselwood (6'3/189) enrolled at Oklahoma this winter after signing on as five-star recruit. He comes equipped with a palatable size/speed combination, with ESPN's Tom Luginbill seeing similarities in his game to those of both A.J. Brown and N'Keal Harry. There is no denying Haselwood's talent. Just what his immediate impact might be is more of an open question. That's in part due to talent that was already on OU's roster when he signed -- they are perpetually loaded at receiver -- and in part due to two of his new freshman teammates at receiver. Both Theo Wease and Trejan Bridges were elite prep talents in their own right. Sports Illustrated's Caleb Friedman believes that at least one of Haselwood, Wease and Bridges will blow up this fall. Going to be fascinating to see who emerges from this talented bunch.
