    THE TEAM TO BEAT?

Dayton Dunbar three-star running back Tavion Thomas, meanwhile, announced his Top 12 on Friday night via his protected Twitter account but listed Ohio State alongside Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan St, Nebraska, Oregon, USC and Wisconsin.

“I like what [the Buckeyes] have going on,” Thomas told Eleven Warriors. “Coach [Greg] Studrawa is really cool and coach Tony [Alford] is very funny. We talk almost every day.”

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Thomas was arguably the hottest recruit in the country in February, earning nearly a dozen offers in less than a week. He's currently considered the 28th-best running back and No. 436 prospect overall in the Class of 2018, but will undoubtedly see his stock soar as recruiting sites update their rankings.

Thomas rushed for 1,606 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Wolverines last season en route to being named first-team All-Ohio Division IV. He'll be on campus tonight, but doesn't expect to make a decision on his future until after his senior season.

    BACK SO SOON?

Ohio State hosted two very important prospects for practice on Tuesday morning, including Dayton Dunbar three-star running back Tavion Thomas. It was his second visit this month and third since the Buckeyes offered in mid-February, which speaks volumes about his interest in the program.

“The visit was great,” Thomas told Eleven Warriors.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Thomas, who traveled to Columbus with Dunbar running backs coach Derrick Moss on Monday night, spent most of the practice attached at the hip director of player personnel Mark Pantoni. Head coach Urban Meyer even broke away from practice for a few minutes to give Thomas some one-on-one instruction.

“They're really my guys,” Thomas said.

Thomas, who listed Ohio State in his Top 12 on Friday night alongside Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan St, Nebraska, Oregon, USC and Wisconsin, will return to campus for Saturday's team scrimmage. And though he's one of the most sought-after prospects in the country right now, it feels like only a matter of time before he commits to the Buckeyes.

Tavion Thomas, Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar, running back
One of the country’s hottest prospects this winter is a player who could commit to the Buckeyes at virtually any time.

Tavion Thomas is ranked the country’s 10th-best running back by 247Sports.com and that’s the position Ohio State is recruiting him to play — though his 6-foot-2, 225-pound frame could also lend to him playing linebacker in college.

Alabama has offered, Michigan has offered and so have a number of the country’s top programs. But it’s very hard to imagine a player from Dayton, with an early Ohio State offer, ending up anywhere other than Columbus, and I imagine it will happen sooner rather than later.

    Tavion Thomas • 2018 RB • Dayton, Ohio (Dunbar) • ★★★★

The state's top running back also has indicated that he's in no rush to make a decision and right now is planning on taking his official visits. That most recent plan came after he previously discussed making his pledge a bit sooner in the process, so clearly it's something that has at least been on his mind.

Most everyone knows the tale now as the Dunbar star has become a national name with offers from virtually every major program in America. He's been to Tuscaloosa already and this weekend will mark his third trip to Columbus. USC, LSU, Georgia, Michigan, and Texas are among the other offers.

The staff may be wanting to watch and see how his senior year unfolds – both on the field and in the classroom – but this is another case where a commitment wouldn't be too surprising in the least. Even if it's not something that's being planned heading into the weekend visit.

At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Thomas would be the bruiser that could complete a backfield trifecta complementing four-star Brian Snead and one of the country's top all-purpose backs in Westerville's Jaelen Gill.
