NOT READY TO MAKE THAT CALL JUST YET

Late Wednesday night, a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction was placed in favor of Ohio State for Anaheim Mater Dei five-star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. It seemingly came out of nowhere given he's never been to campus, but St. Brown admitted after Thursday's practice at The Opening Finals that he does have a significant interest in the Buckeyes.

“I've been talking to coach Smith and coach Meyer. He texts me a lot,” St. Brown told Eleven Warriors. “Ever since they offered me, we've been building a good relationship.”

The 6-foot, 191-pound St. Brown hopes to make his first trip to Columbus this fall, though distance will make that pretty difficult.

“I'm going to try to take an official visit if I can squeeze some time in with our busy schedule,” St. Brown said. “I would definitely like to take an official visit because I've never been up there.”

Until then, Notre Dame, Stanford and USC remain the favorites in his recruitment. Keep in mind, too, that he's the younger brother of Fighting Irish wide receiver Equanimeous and Cardinal wide receiver Osiris.

“It would be great to go play with either one of my brothers, but at the end of the day, I'm going to do what's best for me and they understand that,” St. Brown said.

    Amon-Ra St. Brown
was awesome. In fact, he was so good that we've made him a five-star on 247Sports. This wasn't a snap reaction. St. Brown has built a five-star resume in pads and throughout the offseason at other events but his showing against the best defensive backs in the country on Saturday night validated a move.

St. Brown was powerful, explosive, competitive and uncoverable. Defensive backs had to resort to holding him to slow him down. The 5-11.5, 191-pounder's signature play came when he had beaten Al Blades Jr. on a corner route but slipped and fell, allowing Blades what looked like an easy interception. Instead, St. Brown popped up, recovered and went up to make the grab. He won another rep after losing a shoe. Nothing was slowing St. Brown down.

Notre Dame, Stanford, Ohio State and USC are among the favorites for St. Brown who has brothers on the Notre Dame and Stanford rosters.

Amon-Ra St. Brown … The No. 3 wide receiver on the 247Sports Composite won the day on Saturday night. St. Brown rarely missed an opportunity to shine against some of the nation’s best cornerbacks, and he was the wide receiver with the most wins from start to finish. He’s a shade under 6-foot, but he plays big on the field on Friday nights and that competitive nature shined through during one-on-one drills. There are tons of talented wide receivers in this class, but as The Opening gets rolling, St. Brown’s power and strength put him a shade above the rest.

Amon-Ra St. Brown continues saying he’d like to make Ohio State visit

The Buckeyes have one wide receiver commit in the Class of 2018 and are patiently awaiting a decision from 4-star prospect Kamryn Babb. But as roster spots open up, the chances for a third receiver in the class may get better.

Two weeks ago Ohio State hosted Texas pledge Rondale Moore from Louisville, a prospect the Buckeyes like. But the nation’s premier slot receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown from Santa Ana, Calif., continues saying he wants to visit the Buckeyes at some point — and he’s a player every program loves.

On Thursday, the country’s 11th-ranked 2018 prospect per the 247Sports composite rankings received his U.S. Army All-American jersey at Mater Dei High School.

St. Brown spoke about what that opportunity means for him, his competitive nature and of course, recruiting. He recently visited USC and said he’ll take an official visit to Notre Dame. Beyond that, nothing is concrete, but he wants to see what the Buckeyes are all about.

St. Brown calls Ohio State one of the schools he’s talking to the most. Check out the interview above.
