As one of the top players in the country, ESPN 150 outside linebacker Jaylon Smith (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) always had people pulling him in different directions. However, two people in particular really made an impression on Smith and helped him make his decision between Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC.

His brother, Rod, a player at Ohio State, and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, who committed to the Irish over USC, helped the nation's 20th-ranked prospect with the recruiting process before Smith committed to the Irish on Saturday.

"I got a knowledge from [Rod], and he was just saying basically throughout high school just to keep my grades up and make sure I'll be loyal to every school and just to follow my own path and do what's best for me," Smith said. "Obviously he gave me the input on Ohio State and what would be the benefit and things like that, but honestly he would have probably chose Notre Dame if he had the chance if everything would have went correct."

While Smith was able to talk continuously with his brother, he really hit it off with Te'o while on his numerous visits to Notre Dame. Smith said the two chatted and talked at length, while he was on campus and Te'o was able to give him insight into both Notre Dame and USC.

"He went through the same thing. … Me and him basically went through the whole same process with being interested in USC and Notre Dame," Smith said. "He laid everything out, but at the end of the day it's what school sets you up for life."

Now it is time for Smith to get in the ears of some of the other recruits as he tries to build the Irish Mob 13, the nickname Notre Dame commits have given to the 2013 class. Personable and outgoing, Smith believes he will able to swing a couple of players in Notre Dame's direction.

Two prospects he has his sights directly on are two ESPN 150 recruits: cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) and outside linebacker Alexander Anzalone (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing). Hargreaves, ranked No. 4 in the ESPN 150, will visit Notre Dame for the first time next month, and Anzalone, ranked No. 66, has the Irish among his top group.

"It's going to be crazy," Smith said. "I have a real good influence on attracting guys like that, so I'm really looking forward to that."

Wow, we just lost my two favorite prospects in this class on the same day... I fully expected Cravens to go elsewhere, but I really wanted to Smith.

Either way, I'm sure Meyer will find his stars... Let's hope Treadwell some other big names postpone until the season starts, so that Meyer can do his recruiting on the gridiron.

With Rod finally buying into the program and being productive does this mean he might reconsider where he plays college ball?

I think it might be a little late by now, especially with ND surging

I'd take him in a heartbeat but I think he sticks with ND.

I would love to land this kid... He and Mitchell would be a ridiculous tandem with Shazier... Add them to this year's freshmen, and we're looking at a potentially lethal LB corps!

This kid is a monster, it sucks we did not get him, but oh well. If you get a chance to watch him definitely do it. He is an athletic freak, he reminds me of Ryan Shazier a lot.

He has a nice insurance policy. After round 1 and 2 he gets a million each round. 3-7 every ten picks that go buy he isnt drafted is 10,000 grand. If he goes undrafted he should be set to rehab and choose where he wants to go.

5 million dollars if he doesn't get drafted. Not bad then he can pick the team he wants to play for.
