The worse case scenerio would be holding Hall out (if he's game ready) for games against Wisky and _Ichigan hoping for a Medical RS and then he doesn't get granted the RS and his career is over...

He played in 3 games this year; the staff better be 100% confident that the RS would be granted or else you are realy jepardizing Hall's future and the team's chances agaist Wisky and _ichigan...

Medical Hardship Requirements

To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

1.The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
2.The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
3.The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
4.The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

I take requirment #4 as greater (more) than 3 games? Is that how you guys read that? Hall has participated in 3 games...

Probably makes sense... he's already missed a lot of time... redshirt and get healthy and stronger and come back in 2013 ready to go.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Another injury setback could potentially bring an end to the season for Jordan Hall.

It might also extend the career of the running back at Ohio State.

Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer confirmed after practice on Wednesday that redshirting the senior remains a possibility heading into the final month of the season as Hall continues to struggle to get healthy and back on the field.

"He re-dinged [his knee], so I don’t know," Meyer said. "He’s not even practicing.

"I think [a redshirt] is [an option], I think it is now. I had to find out even if it’s a possibility, and it is."

Currently dealing with a partially torn ligament in his knee, Hall's health has been a concern all season after a freak accident in the summer when he stepped on a piece of glass with a bare foot, cutting a tendon and needing surgery that kept him on the sideline for all of training camp and the first two games.

He returned to rush for 192 yards during two nonconference games before leaving the Big Ten opener against Michigan State after six carries and a touchdown with his knee injury. He hasn't played since.

Carlos Hyde has thrived in the starting role Hall was projected to have coming into the campaign, but potentially having the ability to pair the two together in the backfield next season could wind up being an unexpected bonus for the Buckeyes should the veteran wind up missing the last four games and getting a redshirt.

I don't ever consider it a problem to have too many options! When you have a lot of talent competing for reps it brings out the best in your players IMO.

That's what everyone was saying last year... The way I see it, we have:

1) Brionte Dunn: isn't contributing

2) Rod Smith: can't hold onto the ball (but showing promise recently)

3) Carlos Hyde: a beast, but lacking the home-run capabilities that Meyer loves

4) Jordan Hall: has been injured all year and will have to take a RS...

So, someone please explain to me why we can't take 2 RB's in this class if they are absolute studs/"1st day starters"? We can send Hall into the slot as well... or... bench him if we have better playmakers.

We're one RB injury away from being decimated at this position... I think Meyer knows that he needs to build up some depth.

Decimated? Rod Smith is fine, Eddie George had fumbling problems also, lack of experience, Rod will be fine. Brionte looked perfectly fine to me when he was in the game. I am perfectly content with our RB situation. I think Hyde most definitely has big play ability. I agree with your sentiment on Jordan Hall. I think we can bring in 2 RB's, but even if we only bring Zeke in, I am not the slightest bit worried.

Hall to Redshirt?

* Meyer said he wanted RB Jordan Hall to work on some kick return when he re-injured his knee. May be done for the year.

* Meyer said it may be a sign from above that this just isn't Hall's year. Said if all goes right, Hall will redshirt and be back next season.

* They didn't cause the knee injury by putting Hall out there too early, but he clearly wasn't 100% with the foot. Had lost a step.

* Meyer also added Hall would not have graduated this year, so a redshirt gives him a chance to get his degree.

Any news on a red shirt for Hall? He played some this year, so it would have to be a medical red shirt. What is required in order to get that? Do they have to make an appeal to the NCAA? Or is there some rule about how much play time is missed and that play time has to be due to injury, etc?

They are holding him out for the rest of the season and then he will apply for a medical RS (he didn't RS as a frosh so he's still inside his 5 year window to play 4 years)....

Medical Hardship Requirements

Hall meets all of the criteria but still must apply for the hardship waiver and hope it is granted...

It's almost gaurenteed, but never 100%....

Update.......

It looks as though Ohio State running back Jordan Hall will apply for a medical redshirt because of a posterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee. Even if he is granted the extra year, there is no guarantee Hall will regain the status he held before the season, when coach Urban Meyer viewed him as an ideal hybrid running back/receiver, the role Percy Harvin ably filled for Meyer at Florida.

One reason is that a couple of players who are part of the 2013 recruiting class â€” running back Ezekiel Elliott and all-purpose back Jalin Marshall â€” show the speed and elusiveness Meyer seeks for that spot.

A healthy Hall still would get his shot, especially at running back, but Ohio State appears to have a potential logjam there next year. Carlos Hyde has emerged as the starter and Rod Smith is becoming more of a factor each week.

The coaches also like freshman Briâ€™onte Dunn, who rushed for 73 yards in mop-up duty against Illinois last week but suffered a knee injury in practice this week. Meyer said he is questionable for next weekâ€™s game at Wisconsin. Another freshman, Warren Ball, drew raves from the coaches before suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Ohio State Confirms Jordan Hallâ€™s Return

COLUMBUS, Ohio â€” The Buckeyes are loading up for a run at Nick Saban and the BCS national championship in 2013. That task got a little bit easier on Thursday, as Ohio State University official confirmed the return of running back Jordan Hall.

The senior out of Jeannette, Pa. was expected to receive an extra year of eligibility after playing in just three games this past season, and now itâ€™s official that he will receive a medical redshirt from the NCAA so that he can return to the team for the 2013 season.

Hall was expected to be the teamâ€™s starting running back during Urban Meyerâ€™s first year in Columbus, but he suffered a freak foot injury over the summer that kept him from playing in the first two nonconference games of the season.

The 5-9, 195-pound Hall returned in week three against Cal with a strong performance. He ran for 87 yards on 17 carries against the Golden Bears, and followed it up with 126 yards of total offense in Ohio Stateâ€™s 29-15 win over UCF the following week.

But Hall suffered a partial tear of the PCL ligament in his right knee during Ohio Stateâ€™s Big Ten opener at Michigan State. He would miss the rest of his senior season, finishing with 218 yards and a touchdown on just 40 carries.

Hall had his breakout year as a junior in 2011. He missed the first two games of that season due to NCAA suspension, but racked up 405 yards on the ground and another 114 as a receiver, while accounting for five touchdowns.

Call it the pivot or the hybrid position or the â€œNo. 3.â€ Call it whatever you like, but the Buckeyes didnâ€™t have it a year ago.

â€œItâ€ being a guy who could line up somewhere other than tailback and take an inside handoff, or catch a quick screen and zip 80 yards. They tried to use Corey Brown, a former high school running back, in that role a few times last season.

It never really fit him.

Not the way Urban Meyer designed it to look when he created the position for his offense years ago. It was even before he coached Percy Harvin at Florida, although Harvin was really the player who perfected the role during both of Meyerâ€™s national championship seasons in Gainesville.

Meyer also had a hybrid receiver/tailback at Utah by the name of Paris Warren. Coincidently, Warren was a transfer from the University of Oregon who racked up over 2,200 yards and scored 19 touchdowns during Meyerâ€™s two years in Salt Lake City.

â€œThose were perfect body types,â€ Meyer said last fall as the Buckeyes prepared to open fall camp.

â€œGreat acceleration, great speed, but also a toughness and strength to them where they can hit it inside.â€
