Lets be honest Michael Sam related to Jackie Robinson would be like comparing Al Sharpton to Medgar Evers.

    Okay.

I'm not arguing anything close to that.

At the end of the day nobody cares that someone is gay in this day and age. Perhaps 20-30 years ago this would have been an interesting story, but today its a non starter. Call it the media grasping for a civil rights story that is just not there.

Do you really believe that? There is literal proof against that statement in the tweets following his selection.

History of violence against LGBT people in the United States

Please tell me about how we're in a "post racial society" too.

I'm fairly confident I have more gay friends than you do and literally none of them care about this. Sorry but this is a made up story that we're "supposed" to care about. Hollis, you're being suckered into this story. I will grant you the gay lobby cares about this, but your rank and file could care less.

Also, we're not in a post-racial society, our current President has divided us among racial lines (among other lines) since he's been in office to the present day...more than any of his recent predecessors .

I bet I could find tweets on people who don't think they landed on the moon, does that represent the vast majority of the populus who actually matters? Come on man.

But what the hell its a fun story for all the wanna-be 60's journalists trying to prime this is as a civil rights issue of our day.

    Please elaborate.

... I won't even argue against you points. I just want to know what's in your head. PM if necessary.

I could take that to the political thread if you wanted (assuming you're serious). But I assume you're joking considering what the administration has choose to address and not address (particularly Holder and Obama). It can't be argued that we're a more divided country than we were in 2008.

Not even close...black vs. white...rich vs. poor...sick vs. healthy...young vs. old...male vs. female...this is the most divisive president in a generation and this is coming from someone who thought George Dub-ya sucked. The president has created an entire grievance industry with his tenure.

    Released by the Rams.

Clearly the Rams are bigots and homophobes.....

    #sarcasm

I think the bigger story about him being cut is not him being gay, but the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year being a 7th round pick and then being cut.

I just hope a team isn't pressured into signing him for the sake have him being gay. Truth hurts sometimes, Sam just didn't have it

This is a classic example of the media doing what the media does best.

I cant stand how everyone is saying. "Look at the film, its not fair" okay. If thats the approach you want to take than why isnt Bortles the starter, he lit it up, or Cousins....o wait its because it was against 2,3,4th string guys. Cant praise one player for scrub time and bash others. only 15 teams run the defense he fits into, and its apparent the other 14 thought they had a solid rotation and he would of been odd man out. Being in the NFL these days is all about versatility Can you return punts, kicks, play Pat/Fg, kick off, return. Thats your best way to make an NFL team

I understand teams shying away from him... This kid probably has the talent to make a practice squad, but who the hell wants a practice squad player who's in the headlines??

I think it's less about his sexual orientation, and more about the media frenzy surrounding him. It's unfortunate, because he probably does have the talent to make the practice squad, but the PR nightmare surrounding him is what turns coaches off.

Honestly, when the season starts, what coach in their right mind would to open themselves up the floodgate of questions for a practice squad player??

Probably a player that isn't as good as Sam. This wasn't an affirmative action move.

I didn't see any outrage that Sam got cut in St Louis, but I did see interest. Sam's released was so heavily covered because so many people are interested... either they're rooting for him to succeed, or the opposite (see Tim Teabow). The media isn't going to run stories on the fifth RB for Dallas that doesn't make the team, because nobody cares.
