Decision made in the last 48 hours...…….he is a coaching legend...……….no school replaces him...………

I wish him the best along with his family and he will always be a Buckeye...…….I hope he remains around the program...….

Thanks for all the hard work, sacrifice and memories on the field coach.

    Urban Meyer at Ohio State:
    12-0 first season.
    12-2 Orange Bowl.
    14-1 National Championship.
    12-1 Fiesta Bowl.
    11-2 College Football Playoff.
    12-2 Cotton Bowl.
    12-1 Rose Bowl.

    7-0 vs. Michigan.

Pretty darn good run in Columbus.

How much did the way OSU and Drake turning their back on him play in his decision?

This is health related. He wants to continue to grind and coach but physically he cannot. I respect him making the decision to step away now and take care of himself.

Urban Meyer: "I believe I will not coach again."

    Question: Are you certain?

    Meyer: "I am certain."

The biggest reason I respect his decision is this one right here. If nothing else, I think I would have been angry if he chose to keep going as in many ways it would feel like he'd be reneging on the contract he signed with his family.

Gene Smith alludes to Urban Meyer having a “new capacity” within the Ohio State athletics department.

I really hope Urban sticks around the program in some capacity that allows him to oversee the team but also to remain separated enough to focus on his health.

I would ideally want to see him in a role similar to what Barry Alvarez does at Wisconsin.

He is truly a coaching legend, and I don’t think we will see as good of a coach for a VERY long time.

Just let him recruit, and nothing else.

I don't like that idea. Day is going to get compared to Urban enough, he doesn't need the guy in an office down the hall. Maybe Urban could serve a role as a consultant for all of the athletic department or teach a class like Tress used to, but I think Head Coach of Ohio State Football is a job that doesn't need another coach to supervise.

Barry Alvarez is special to Wisconsin. He made that program, and even still, I bet his constant presence puts a pressure on their coaches. When you see their coaches leaving to Arkansas and Oregon State, it's not crazy to wonder how much of that has to do with Barry.

Although it pissed me off at times, the way the school and Urban kept Jim Tressel and his star alumni at arms-length was the right thing to do, at least for the first few years. We can't expect that this can be an Urban Meyer program without Urban Meyer. It's a Ryan Day program now. And although I have my reservations, hearing Gene Smith's interviews gives me a little confidence.

I couldn't disagree more. When you have a HOF coach with the third highest winning percentage of all time down the hall from you, you temper your ego and find a way to work with him in any capacity that he is willing. Ryan Day would be an idiot to ignore the tutelage of Urban Meyer.

Urban isn't taking another coaching job (as far as we know), and he is still very young. If he is able to find a role that is less demanding than HC in the athletic dept we could have his guidance for the next 10-20 yrs, which might honestly be the best possible scenario for Ohio State Football.

Urban is famously known for working well with his team of assistants, and I see no reason why that wouldn't transcend into an admin/consultancy role.

Ryan Day would be able to get Urbans Tutelage whenever he wanted regardless if Urban is overseeing the football program or not... Day doesn't need another boss to answer to.

The scenario where Urban being an overseer is a bad thing is only if he's trying to do too much and doesn't let Day just be the HC..
