Michigan State (5-2, 1-2) vs. #1 Ohio State (7-0, 3-0) October 20, 2007 3:30 PM ET | ABC Keys and thoughts on what we need to do to win? Let's try and get more activity in these game threads.
Key's on what to do to win? GET PRESSURE ON THE QB! If our DL doesn't start dominating up front better, we're going to get exposed and beaten.
The key to the game will be slowing down Javon Ringer. He may be the best running back in the big 10 that a lot of people don't talk about. OSU run defense has been great all year but they did struggle a little bit against Kent State. That may end up being a good thing because the coaches will have the players attention this week. MSU's passing game isn't very good. The QB is average at best and they only have one WR that is a threat Thomas. OSU will role coverage to him. MSU's defense hasn't looked very good either. I think we will be able to move the ball pretty easily against them as long as we don't stop ourselves with either penalties or turnovers. OSU matches up well against MSU and I really don't see this game being any closer then a couple of touchdowns.
I agree 100%. If our D can shut down Ringer, I don't see this one being close. MSU hung with Wisconsin, but look at what has happened to them over the past two weeks.
I'm not sure how good their passing game is but we have to control Javon Ringer. AND if we can get on the board early and often in the 1st qtr/half that should help us because it would then make MSU pass the ball.
I think that needs to be our game plan the rest of the year! We will be facing some good RB's and some QB's who aren't all that great, or at least not that experienced. So if we can get up early and often I think things will go well the rest of the year.
Stopping the run is the 1st thing we do on defense anyway. We stop the run and put pressure on all the QB's. Forcing them to throw INTs. and INC's . I don't think Boyer is much a threat to run. But when facing Juice (Illinois)we need to control rush to keep him in the pocket don;t let him roll out to bye time. Then make sure not to leave gapping holes for him to escape thru he will make mistakes and turn the ball over.
I think we'll handle MSU's offense just fine. Sparty may give us fits when we're on offense, but we'll adjust and take advantage of having better athletes.
No matter how close the 1st half is....we all know how Tressel and the boys adjust in the 2nd half.h_sign:
Should be a good Big 10 game. With our defense standing out, and proving the running attack last week was a fluke.
My only concern this week is if Beanie isn't healthy and able to carry the ball much. If he's out I don't know that we will run the ball very easily against MSU and that will make it hard to move the ball. His ankle has to hold up for us to run the table!
First time post Just wanted to say hello, I bleed scarlet and gray. Keys to the game: my keys to every game is the defense needs to show up each and every week. I put our D up against anyone. Tired of hearing all the trolls and nay sayers.
I may be off base here, but does Boeckman remind you of Krenzel? He doesn't make too many mistakes and his passes are right on. It is weird, but this team reminds me so much of the NC year. We need to take on game at a time. We still don't get any respect
