UCF Knights vs. Ohio State Buckeyes - Recap - September 08, 2012 - ESPN
Coverage mistakes can be taken care of with sacks, pressure, hurries, etc by front 7. DB mistakes will be corrected by previous, practice/coaching and/or next man up. That is the beauty of our team on the D-side of the ball; DEPTH. We have good depth @ DB position.
I'm amazed how much better Braxton's vision is when compared to Pryor. This guy just sees the field a lot better already as a Soph. That final cut and change of direction on the end of that play was just straight money.
I thought the game would be a lot closer than it was. At half-time it was only 17-10.
Literally minutes after writing on a fellow OSU fans wall on Facebook, we score. I have no idea who scored, I can't even remember if it was a run or pass play.
But after that point, the floodgates opened and we won easily.
I'm not too worried about our secondary. I really would rather these kinds of communication problems show up now so that they can be spotted on film and worked on in practice. I think they'll get it together by BIG play.
All in all I was upset, but ok with some aspects of the game. The offense did better than I thought they would at times, but at other times it did worse. We need to open the play book up, we don't need Brax carrying the ball 20+ times. A couple times in the game I forgot Stoneburner was even on the team.
Defense was putrid in my opinion, we did get some picks, but other than that it stunk. They ran on us like a treadmill. Our vaunted defensive line couldn't get hardly any pressure, how many times do you remember Big Hank's name or John Simon's name being called? The linebackers stunk, I didn't see Shazier making very many plays at all. The secondary was miscommunicating all game long. Communication issues will clear themselves up, Im really not worried about that. The lack of pass rush by our front line, the lack of stopping the run by our front 7 is worrisome.
I'm not a doomsday guy, but I was pretty disappointed in our defensive effort, and the lack of variety on offense. Everytime their running backs ran into the secondary they showed Fickell chewing that gum and looking like he doesn't have a clue, it reminded me of last season (shudder).
Schutt was getting some major snaps very early in the game, he was getting nice pressure and assisted on some tackles. He is going to be a good player. I absolutely love the fact that Urban is playing so many young kids, makes me excited for the future.
Honestly, I am ok with that. Brionte was handling the rock really well, I am a Big Hyde supporter, but I actually feel with Brionte stepping in we aren't losing much, plus we should get Hall back this week(fingers crossed).
Great post!!!! This is exactly what I said in one our my posts, you are exactly right. At times, they ran up the middle where Big Hank and Goebel were stationed, and lets not forget they were busting 8+ yards on carries pretty frequently.
I'm confident they will get this figured out. Let's not forget that the coaches are installing a new offense and (I think) a new defense... at least in philosophy. We are also playing younger guys so mistakes are going to happen.
This win is beginning to look a little better...
UCF is 6-2 and they've only lost to us and Mizzou by 5 points...
