FRIDAY STARTING TO BREAK DOWN DIFFICULT DECISION

Another New Jersey star to watch is, 2018 offensive lineman Tyler Friday, who suits for Don Bosco Prep. With early offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, North Carolina, Maryland and others, Friday–a 6-foot-3, 260 pound guard–is one of the most offered sophomores in the country.

Friday told Rivals.com that he's just trying to get himself acclimated to all the attention.

"It was really unexpected, to be honest," the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Friday said of his meteoric rise. "Freshman year I had zero offers and it really picked up here at the end of my sophomore year. I’m just trying to be humble about it."

A two-way player, Friday has reportedly expressed interest in visiting Ohio State, where his former teammate at Bosco, Kevin Feder, is now a redshirt-freshman. He could line up along the offensive line or the defensive line in college, but he's not worrying about that yet.

"They’re telling me to just be a football player and be open to everything," he said. "I’m willing to play wherever the coach wants me to play."

As he emerges on the national recruiting scene, Friday also sat down and talked with Scout.com, touching on Ohio State, Michigan and others.

Tyler Friday | Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep | ★★★★
A two-way lineman out of a New Jersey prep powerhouse is never the wrong fit for any program.

That’s Tyler Friday, and that’s one of the reasons why he’s been a favorite of the Buckeyes for a while. The top 40 prospect is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound tackle that also plays along the offensive line, but his future seems to be on defense. Ohio State is one of the schools he’s maintained interest in, but Michigan and Rutgers lead the way on the 247Sports crystal ball. Friday last visited Ohio State in late July.

Friday … Tyler Friday talks Buckeyes, Schiano

Ohio State will get a key visit next weekend from one of its top 2018 defensive line targets — Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) 4-star recruit Tyler Friday. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Friday is the nation’s second-ranked defensive tackle prospect and, according to most folks who have an inclination for these things, has a top group of schools that include Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State. That could make him the center of the first real battle between the three recruiting kings of the Big Ten in quite awhile.

Friday talked to Todderick Hunt of NJ.com about a number of different topics related to his recruitment and tried to temper the discussion about a “group of favorites.”

Are Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State the teams on top?
“I mean, not really. A lot of guys take things the wrong way. Everyone has a fair shot as of right now. But I guess those are the schools that stand out to me because they are my most recent visits. But as of right now I don’t have any leaders or anything like that.”

When it comes to Ohio State, it’s the relationship Friday has forged with Greg Schiano that continues to drive the interest.

Which coaches does Friday have the best relationships with?
“Coach (Greg) Schiano from Ohio State, coach (Sean) Spencer, the d-line coach at Penn State. Coach (Chris) Partridge at Michigan and coach (Bill) Busch at Rutgers.”

Friday discusses his relationship with former RU coach Greg Schiano:
“We (correspond) pretty much every week. They just try to keep a good relationship, which is something that I really think is a key factor when it comes to picking a school. And right now, him and their staff have been doing a great job staying in contact with me.”

Ohio State is looking to take a handful of defensive linemen in the 2018 class and they’ll get a chance to impress Friday again when he visits on March 26.

    GOTTA GET DOWN ON FRIDAY

Ramsey, New Jersey, Don Bosco Prep four-star defensive tackle Tyler Friday also narrowed things down on Wednesday evening, listed Ohio State in his Top 15 alongside Alabama, Boston College, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCLA and Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound Friday is considered the fourth-best defensive tackle and No. 56 rospect overall in the Class of 2018. The Wolverines are considered the heavy favorite for Friday, as well, though he has been to Columbus twice since the Buckeyes offered in December 2015.

Ohio State already holds a commitment from five-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent and remains in pursuit of four-stars Aeneas Hawkins and P.J. Mustipher, both of whom sit higher on the staff's board than Friday at the moment.
