Cincinnati running back Corey Kiner adds Ohio State offer
Ohio State also offered Roger Bacon (Cincinnati) 2021 running back Corey Kiner on Monday night.

A 2021 prospect, Kiner is the country’s fifth-ranked running back in his class and Ohio’s third-ranked overall prospect according to 247Sports.com. Kiner camped at Ohio State last summer’s Friday Night Lights and has been in regular contact with Tony Alford, who extended the offer to the 5-foot-10, 205-pound tailback.

“He was saying how much he wanted me to come back up,” Kiner said. “Then he offered me.”

Michigan has all three of the early Crystal Ball predictions for Kiner. The Wolverines have also done an excellent job prioritizing him early in his recruiting process. Kiner expects to return to Ohio State on June 6. Will the Buckeyes pick up their efforts to land him? Kiner is just one four running backs to have an offer in the 2021 class from Alford and Ohio State.

Cincinnati tailback Corey Kiner learning key lessons
Earlier this summer, Roger Bacon (Cincinnati) High School running back Corey Kiner, one of just five early offers extended from the Buckeyes to 2021 tailbacks, made a mistake on social media.

It happens to people all over the world every day, but most of those people aren’t having their every word scrutinized by folks who cover recruiting or by college football coaches who are trying to get to know you. Kiner’s mistake, though, wasn’t egregious or vulgar — it was just a simple retweet.

In the now deleted comment, Kiner retweeted and seemed to agree with, a tweet that was decidedly anti-Ohio State. That tweet was offered up by a Michigan commitment. And Kiner, who has visited Michigan many times, appeared to be playing to the audience.

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford saw the tweet, and apparently it didn’t take long for him to reach out to the young running back with an attempt to get to the bottom of the message.

“I definitely learned a lesson,” Kiner told Lettermen Row. “And I’m fine with Ohio State. [Alford] just made sure I wasn’t mad or anything like that. He said I can’t be posting things like that.”

How fine things are between the Buckeyes and Ohio’s seventh-ranked 2021 prospect will be obvious to see come Sept. 1. That day, when open communication between high school juniors and college staffs begins, is when that the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Kiner hopes will lead to some real relationship growth between Ohio State and himself.

“I haven’t talked to [Alford] much since June camp,” Kiner said. “July has been pretty busy for me, but I will start to pick contact back up with the coaches soon.”

Corey Kiner ready for Ohio State visit
It was mentioned in Tuesday’s edition of Dotting the ‘Eyes, but Ohio State is hosting Cincinnati Roger Bacon 4-star 2021 running back Corey Kiner this weekend.

Ohio’s top-ranked 2021 tailback, Kiner is excited to see the Buckeyes offense up close because he knows most everything about the program as a whole.

“I’m just going to soak in everything on the visit,” he told Lettermen Row. “I really know almost everything about them. I see myself fitting in with them, but I still watch very closely because there is always something to be learned during a visit.”

Because of the Buckeyes self-imposed penalty that has kept them from reaching out to 2021 recruits like other schools are able to now, Kiner didn’t hear from Ohio State on Sept. 1. He did hear from Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh before anyone else, and that’s why the battle for his services remains a very interesting one to watch.

Kiner doesn’t want to hurry a choice, though, and he is taking his time to figure it all out.

“I’m soaking this all in for as long as can,” Kiner said. “I need to know everything before I make a decision. The choice I make will change my life, so I have to make sure it’s the right one.”

Though he’s not an Ohio State verbal, there may not have been a player in Ohio who had a better game this weekend than Cincinnati Roger Bacon star running back Corey Kiner, who went off for eight touchdowns and 323 yards rushing against Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. Kiner is now one of the just 19 players to ever score eight times in a game in Ohio high school football history.

Corey Kiner is a name that most who follow Ohio State recruiting probably already know, because 2021 running back recruiting has already been talked about a ton. He seems like the perfect back to pair with another running back that the Buckeyes are hoping to land, four-star Donovan Edwards out of West Bloomfield High School in Michigan, especially since Edwards and Kiner have a good relationship after crossing paths numerous times on the recruiting trail.

Kiner is a very powerful runner with great speed and elusiveness. He also possesses the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and run quality routes. The Buckeyes have already offered Kiner and appear to be one of the top schools in his recruitment.
