Garrett Dellinger has good visit at Ohio State, likes Buckeyes One of the top prospects in the Class of 2021 made his first visit to Ohio State in five years over the weekend as the Buckeyes hosted Wisconsin. Garrett Dellinger, Michigan’s fifth-ranked junior, headed to Columbus rather than checking out Michigan and Notre Dame — two of the presumptive favorites in his recruitment — in order to give his father a chance to do something he’s been wanting to do. “I chose to go to the Ohio State game over the Michigan game because my dad has never been to a game there at Ohio State,” Dellinger told Lettermen Row. “He is deploying to Iraq on Dec. 1 for six months, so we wanted to make sure we fit a game in there before his work got a little crazy.” That doesn’t mean the 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive lineman at Clarkston High School, ranked by 247Sports.com as the country’s No. 1 offensive guard in the Class of 2021, isn’t sincerely interested in the Buckeyes. Dellinger certainly is listening to Ohio State, and even though he lives in Michigan, he’s not a player who has let fandom affect his recruiting much to this point. “I don’t necessarily have a [favorite] team, because growing up I moved around the country due to my father’s job,” Dellinger said. “My older brother [Matt] was a linebacker at Kent State, so that was my favorite team. But otherwise I am very open-minded to any school. It’s about whichever one best fits me. “My sister played volleyball and graduated from Western Kentucky, and my other 3 siblings attended Kent.” As mentioned, Dellinger returned to Ohio State for the first time since 2014 when his brother and the Golden Flashes took on Ohio State, so this trip had a slightly different feel to it. “I had a great visit, even in the rain and I have a great connection with [Ohio State offensive line] Coach [Greg] Studrawa,” he said. “I talk to Coach Day and Coach Stud multiple times a week, and I am very excited about Ohio State. “There are programs in place to be successful after graduation, and Coach Day and Coach Stud have all the connections to be successful in the NFL, too. The ‘wow’ moment was definitely talking with Coach Day and Coach Stud, but it’s really awesome to see a ton of NFL personnel on the field.” Ohio State has some major competition for Dellinger outside of the Midwest as well. The lineman, who once lived in Alabama, also considers Florida, LSU and the Crimson Tide among his favorites along with the Buckeyes, Wolverines and Fighting Irish. The decision won’t be an easy one from here. “I am playing basketball now and I will attend the Future-50 Under Armour camp in December, and then I’ll probably make a decision in spring,” he said. “Fortunately, I have a tough decision ahead of me and I have many great schools to choose from. I will definitely choose a school that will have challenging academics and offers great opportunity to play in the NFL. Luckily my family will help me through this process.”

NCAA extends dead period again, new Ohio State offers extended https://t.co/TPtolpm1T5— Lettermen Row (@LettermenRow) May 14, 2020 Garrett Dellinger has Ohio State in final four schools Greg Studrawa and Ohio State have been very focused on 2021 offensive tackle J.C. Latham. But the Buckeyes still remain in the mix for Clarkson (Mich.) 4-star Garrett Dellinger, who released his final four schools on Twitter on Wednesday evening. LSU has been considered the team to beat for the country’s No. 12-ranked offensive tackle for some time, and it is the only non-Big Ten team still in the mix. He visited Ohio State last November and has been planning an official visit to the school this June when his father returned from work overseas. But like so many kids around the country, it seems that his process could be accelerating as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Ohio State has been marginally involved in the recruitment of Dellinger. But his eventual decision could play a major role in the decisions of other tackles, including Latham and 4-star Tristan Leigh, each of whom is also very seriously considering the Tigers.

The Hurry-Up: Garrett Dellinger comes off the board, OSU is in the mix for defensive linemen Tyleik Williams and Kenyatta Jackson Jr., and we highlight in-state corner Alex Afari. https://t.co/aK9TFHBXtE— Eleven Warriors (@11W) June 24, 2020 DELLINGER COMES OFF BOARD It has been expected for quite some time, but on Wednesday it became official that Clarkston (Mich.) High School offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger is headed to LSU. The Ohio State target – ranked No. 79 overall, No. 12 at offensive tackle and No. 5 in Michigan – committed to Ed Orgeron's crew over Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, the other three programs in his final four. Similar to the situation with California cornerback Jaylin Davies choosing Oregon, this is a commitment that doesn't exactly set the Buckeyes back, and it doesn't sting anywhere close to as much as JC Latham and Hudson Wolfe choosing Alabama and Tennessee, respectively. But Ohio State will now have to officially look elsewhere, as targets such as Jager Burton, Tristan Leigh, Rayshaun Benny and Dellinger's teammate, Rocco Spindler, will continue to be in focus as potential offensive line additions. The Buckeyes made it onto Dellinger's final list of considerations for multiple reasons, starting with his relationship with Ryan Day. “Coach Day is probably the most normal coach there is,” Dellinger said in his commitment video. “When you talk to him, it's really like talking to your dad or a family member. ... Ohio State was my very first camp I went to, and after camp was over, I got a tour of the facilities and all that. When I went to the weight room, my helmet is the same helmet that Michigan uses. So, being Ohio State, they did not like that. They said to go set my helmet outside.” Added Dellinger's mother, Stephanie, about Day: “And he's a really personable coach. He's had a lot of conversations with Garrett, and he's another coach that really talks to Garrett about more than just football.” Life after football was also something the Dellinger family considered during their son's recruitment. “Ohio State has developed things for the student-athletes that, really, we haven't seen at other schools – (like) the Real Life Wednesdays program, where they dedicate their time to just get them job skills,” Dellinger's father, Matthew, said in the commitment video.
