Let's be honest.. Urbans offense isn't tailored to QB's for passing ability.. how many QBs has he ever gotten drafted? I can think of 2.

    2004 Josh Harris 6th rnd
    2005 Alex Smith 1st overall
    2010 Tim Tebow 1st rnd
    2011 Cam Newton 1st overall
    2016 Cardale Jones 4th rnd

    And technically an Urb QB...
    2015 Braxton Miller 3rd rnd

    Undrafted FA..
2007 Chris Leak signed with the Bears
2018 JT Barrett signed with the Saints

Urban also developed Kenny Guiton into a solid QB

The truth is that no one has shown the ability to consistently put NFL-ready QBs into the league.

QB is a position that you simply have to recruit and develop, and it's a bit of a wild card in that you really don't know what you're going to get mentally with a player. That being said, I think that Urban has treated the position like many of his others in that he often picks the most athletic or physically dominant player rather than the kid who can understand and execute the gameplan. He did this with Braxton over Guiton, and Cardale over JT.

Also, as good of a recruiter as he's been, he hasn't been able to bring in a true stand out player at the position for years. If he had a Vince Young/Terrelle Pryor or Cam Newton/Deshaun Watson type of player, this offense would absolutely dominate.

Dwayne Haskins is the closest he's come to finding that kid so far, and I think we're going to be very happy with the results.

Yep! I made the comment a few months ago, maybe after the spring game, that Urban was finally going to get his chance to coach Deshaun Watson. Haskins is really close, and if he continues to get better this season, I’d argue that he’s further along than what Deshaun was at this stage.

@PHATBUCK13 dont forget that Urban had Cam Newton for two years, as well.

Purdue is called “the cradle of Quarterbacks” and they’ve put one great one, two really good ones, and maybe two more decent ones in the NFL. Even the schools that supposedly produce the best of the best are churning them out ever five years. More like every 15-20. It’s obviously very difficult to produce a great one.

I think Haskins is one that we will be able to watch on Sunday’s for years to come. IMO, Martell will be fun and exciting to watch at Ohio State.

Let’s also not forget that Joe Burrow will probably play on Sunday’s. He looks good on a trash LSU offense

@Bucknut502 I don’t remember forgetting anything, that is, I have no recollection of anything omitting my memory.

Haskins is setting the record books on fire, no reason to play Tate.

its coaches fault they cant scheme a run game with non running qb

We struggled in games against some trash opponents, I bet there is a Tate package that they wanted to try out, but couldn't afford an ill-timed turnover. His time will come

As soon as next year if not sooner, as much as I think he needs to come back, its seems like every mock draft his Haskins as a first rounder. Hard to pass that up
