Agreed, I think he's a 3rd-4th round pick. I don't understand why these guys go pro when they project as a fourth round pick?!?

He certainly could improve his stock though.

I think he would have been better off coming back. To me he seems unpolished.

    He needed Kerry Coombs.

I’m not sure about that. He’d be the 3rd best CB on the team, possibly 4th. Wade and Okudah are legit 1st round talent. I think Sheff can go 4th round this year. It’s best for him and Ohio State to go, imo.

Let's assume that he got a 4th round draft grade from the advisory committee.

The last pick in the 4th round is still a $3 million contract: $600k/yr with a $500k signing bonus. He will make about 100% less than that if he stays in college.

Unless he's confident he will jump up into the second round in 2020, or money isn't an immediate need for him and the family. The total salary difference between being a mid 3rd round pick and mid 4th is around 20%. If he stays and loses his starting job and/or gets hurt (even minor injuries), he could actually LOSE draft position. The smart move is to go.

Way to many times these young kids are short sighted and do not look at the long term...…….

    Kendall Sheffield, CB
While Campbell was left off NFL.com’s list of fastest players last summer, Kendall Sheffield was No. 1 on the list, and he’ll probably be the betting favorite to run the fastest 40 time at the combine. Sheffield broke Ohio State’s 60-meter dash record during a brief stint running indoor track last winter, and combines truly elite speed with a long frame for a cornerback (6-0, 193).

Sheffield’s play on the football field at Ohio State never quite lived up to his potential, so he isn’t likely to extend the Buckeyes’ streak of first-round cornerbacks. But his upside is still through the roof, and his play did improve over the course of his two years in Columbus, so it’s still likely that he’ll be drafted no later than the middle rounds.

Gotta wonder if there’s something with the strength and conditioning at Ohio State. These injuries are rare, if you consider the how many there have been in the history of the combine. Then to have two in consecutive years, both players from Ohio State? Maybe more to that than a coincidence.
