The competition he played against in Texas was sub-par.

then why did almost every school in the country want this kid...hate to tell you put recruits play sub pair competition all the time, does not mean they are sub par players...Hell in Jersey state champs never play a team out side of their region...they are something like 21-24 state champs in new jersey...so we should stop recruiting those kids because they didnt play best in jersey?

I hate this argument every time I see it...

If you put Joey Bosa and put him in the MAC tomorrow he's still the same beast that he is today even if he's wearing an Ohio uni instead of a Ohio State uni..

    Same with the conference argument...

Bama would still be the same loaded Bama team if you take them out of the SEC and put them in the Mountain West tomorrow...just because they're San Jose St and Colorado State doesn't mean they immediately are on a lower level talent wise...

Tats just an ignorant and uneducated way to look at something without a tally looking at something...stupid cliche...

    You're going to wrong direction.

It's much easier to predict that 'Bama would be dominant in the Mountain West than to say that Boise State (three years ago) would be dominant in the SEC.

I don't know about Mitchell's high school, but of course an elite player in a crappy league will generally perform better than that same player in a good league. Especially on defense.

Remember how dominant Storm Klein's HS film looked?

i think what code was getting at was that his high school competition was sub-par at times, but what made him such a desirable commodity was his measureables as he was an absolute freak athlete, but the consensus (at least what i've heard) was that he needed to be coached up some, so him redshirting wasn't that big of a surprise to me at lease

But it's sill the same player regardless..

I don't care if he's in the California Penal League or the National Football League, it's the same player with the same talent no matter what team you put him on....that's an absolute fact...

I'm not saying that a Boise team would have the same record in the SEC that they would in the MWC, but if you move them there, they are no better or worse as far as their talent goes no matter what league you stick them in...it's the same players on the same team...

Mike Mitchell is the exact same payer whether he's on a D-6 HS team or if he's on the Cowboys. He's the same cat regardless....

Absolutely... but he will look different on tape... At least to fans. On the Cowboys he will look like he doesn't belong on a D-6 team he will look like LeBron James in the Lancaster YMCA over 40 league.

I believe coaches and scouts are really good at projecting though.

I think what's annoying about this conversation is everybody on this board was excited about this kid. Now all the sudden he's transferring to another school he's sub par or he played in an average division in football. First off I wouldn't say there's much sub par football played in Texas. I would be willing to bet some of the smallest schools could beat a lot of the best teams from other states. Texas has the best HS football period!
Lastly, if Urban Meyer thinks the kid is good enough to offer a scholarship that's good enough for me. Meyer doesn't hand those things out like candy.

    Name five schools that do...

At least Bama gets their players to play at a level that gets them the job interview... We're lucky to have one LB drafter in the top two rounds in any given draft.

Look at where we were when Dantonio and Heacock were here (still think Heacock benefitted from a great system under Dantonio).

Our last truly great LB core was Hawk/Carp/Schleigel. That was TEN YEARS AGO.
