Conley has played very well in the limited time so far this season.

Mike Conley organizes workouts for Memphis Grizzlies
    __________

Mike Conley says that as the Grizzlies point guard it's his responsibility to organize workouts during the lockout. "And guys did a great job of keeping their word and coming in on time ready to work," he said.

Mike Conley decided not to wait for an end to the NBA lockout to direct the Grizzlies.

The point guard took charge and mobilized his teammates for a mini-camp in Memphis this week.

Conley, Rudy Gay, Tony Allen, O.J. Mayo, Zach Randolph, Xavier Henry and Sam Young reunited at a local gym early Tuesday. Ish Smith and second-round draft pick Josh Selby were expected to join the group Wednesday.

The Grizzlies will practice together all week minus Darrell Arthur and their foreign teammates. Marc Gasol, Greivis Vasquez and Hamed Haddadi are playing with their national teams in Olympic-qualifying tournaments.

"I've been prepared all summer to do this," Conley said. "It's my job as the point guard. I want to be one of the leaders on the team. And guys did a great job of keeping their word and coming in on time ready to work.

"We found a good week when everybody could come back to Memphis and get some work in. We're going to do it again going forward. We're going to take weeks during the lockout to get together. It might be here. It might be in Las Vegas. Wherever we can get guys to meet and we can get a gym."

    Chat with Mike Conley Jr.

Welcome to SportsNation! On Thursday, we'll have Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley Jr. stopping by to chat about the NBA.

Last year, Conley helped Memphis to by far the Grizzlies' best season since his arrival four years ago. Memphis finished 46-36 and made the playoffs, winning more than 40 games and making the playoffs for the first time in five years. Along the way, Conley posted career highs in points (13.7 ppg) and assists (6.5 apg).

ESPN.com has spent the offseason ranking every player in the NBA, from 1-500, as voted on by 91 NBA experts. Conley was ranked No. 65 on the list.

Send your questions now and join Conley Thursday at 1 p.m. ET

Being ranked as the 65th best player in the NBA is pretty damn good IMO considering it's a flashy league and Conley plays in Memphis and stays under the radar. If he played in L.A. he'd be a borderline all-star.

He's improved his numbers every season since he's been in the league and now that he'll be getting even more minutes I look for him to finish in the top 5 in the NBA in assists and average about 15ppg and 8ast.

He's proven that he can be more than just Oden's teammate.

Does anyone else think that the NBA guys can enjoy time-off more than any other pro athletes?

I'm black, I'm allowed to say things like that...

But seriously. They all seem to be having a blast with this time off. I'm sure the average NBA guy is worried about his paycheck, but the high-dollar guys seem to be having fun making appearances and just being celebrities. It demonstrates just how "star driven" the NBA is IMO. I'm not saying it's a bad thing either.

The Grizzlies just tipped off against the Bulls on ESPN.

This can give us a good chance to see Conley square up against the MVP Derrick Rose.

Conley has improved his numbers in every season so far in his career in points, assists, and steals.

Correction: Derrick Rose isn't playing in this game...
