Jets K Mike Nugent declined the team's contract offer and will test the open market.
Nugent missed 15 games last season after suffering a strained right quadriceps in the season opener. The Jets were much derided for spending a second-round pick on Nugent in 2005, and they were rewarded with four mediocre seasons. Jay Feely, also a free agent, is expected to re-sign as the Jets kicker. Nugent will be top kicker on the market.

    Nugent for Heisman!

I wouldn't call Nuge's first few seasons "mediocre," but they certainly weren't brilliant. I am sure he gets a good starting spot somewhere.

He won't have a problem finding a new team.

He's a Buck again. I hope he stays healthy and does well. He still has a 20 year career ahead of him if he wants it.

The kicking all around the league this year has been pretty crappy. I'm shocked that Nugent isn't on a roster.

He played for 2 teams in 09, the Cardinals were one of them when Rackers was injured. I too am surprised he's not on a roster full time already.

Woohoo! I hope he sticks. I guess we'll see if the Bengals draft a kicker tomorrow.

Nuge had a heck of a game today. 5/5 for field-goals and 4 touchbacks on kick-offs.

His 15 points were the only scores for the Bengals who beat the Ravens.
