Darrion Henry Releases his top-six
Cincinnati four-star defensive end Darrion Henry announced his top-six Monday night via Twitter. Of course, it included Ohio State.

Henry has long been expected to commit to Ohio State and is a third of the Cincinnati trio that includes five-star commit Paris Johnson Jr. and four-star linebacker Jaheim Thomas, who recently won the linebacker MVP award at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp in Cincinnati. Henry and Thomas announced on the same day last week that they would be releasing cut lists soon, but Thomas has not released his own yet.

This shows that the two friends and teammates might be separating themselves a bit, as it seemed like they were tied at the hip when they tweeted that they’d be releasing cut lists soon. It might not even be a situation where they would go to different schools but just to be viewed as two separate players themselves.

It very well could also be that Henry had a different graphic designer than Thomas too, though Thomas tweeted that he needs a graphic designer after Henry released his list.

Henry’s last visit during spring practice happened a day before Thomas’, when the linebacker finally got his Ohio State offer.

Releasing their lists at different times could be an effort to separate themselves as recruits, or it could mean nothing at all. But what the trio ultimately decides to do is fairly a mystery to everyone except themselves.

Two teams to note in Henry’s top-six are LSU and Georgia, two teams that have been said to be top schools for not only Thomas and Henry but also Johnson moving forward.

Ohio State target Darrion Henry hinting at possible commitment?
Another top Ohio State target in the Class of 2020 made waves with a tweet on Friday night.

Cincinnati Princeton 4-star defensive lineman Darrion Henry, the country’s third-ranked strongside defensive end and Ohio’s second-ranked prospect behind future Vikings teammate Paris Johnson, announced on Twitter that he could end his college recruitment sooner than expected.



Now here’s the bigger question: what the heck does that mean? Henry has never actually announced a decision date in the past — and he didn’t now — so a commitment coming “sooner” could mean “sooner than December” or “sooner than September.” So, I’d caution anyone from getting too excited or assuming that choice is coming in the next week or anything like that.

I’d also suggest not letting the timing of his tweet freak you out too much. Yes, that proclamation coming a week after his official visit to LSU is interesting but I’m reluctant to call it bad news or good news or any other kind of news for Ohio State and its pursuit of the 6-foot-6, 260-pound in-state priority. In fact, I’ll say something here that may make people turn their heads: I think Cincinnati is a bigger threat to Ohio State for Darrion Henry than LSU is.

The Buckeyes have 100-percent of the 247Sports.com crystal ball selections for Henry and despite the push from LSU — for him, Johnson and Jaheim Thomas — it’d still be a major upset if his eventual commitment is given anywhere other than Ohio State.

 

Darrion Henry's Massive Drop in Latest 247 Update
Some of yesterday's big news revolved around top defensive line prospect Darrion Henry. The Cincinnati Princeton defender is unquestionably one of Ohio State's top remaining targets and everyone has him pegged to end up in Columbus. Unfortunately, Henry didn't look all that elite while wearing shorts and a T-shirt at one of the recent camp settings and the only option, obviously, was to drop him 160 spots.

Now a low four-star in the 247Sports rankings and sitting outside the top-200, Henry has also been moved from defensive end to defensive tackle. I don't have an issue with the position switch and fully expect the 280-pounder to end up along the interior part of the line. We discuss this every year when it comes to ratings dips and dives, but apparently the camp setting is extremely important to some outlets.

• Henry made his long-awaited Ohio State official visit. Despite a late push by Tennessee and others, it’ll be a surprise if he picks anyone other than the Buckeyes when he makes his scheduled announcement on Saturday.

 

Darrion Henry sets his decision date

The college football world will know whether or not the years-long relationship with Cincinnati Princeton defensive lineman Darrion Henry will turn into an Ohio State commitment on Saturday.

Henry, the country’s 11th-ranked defensive tackle prospect and Ohio’s second-ranked prospect according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, has seen his recruitment through despite most assuming he’d end up at Ohio State all along. He’s taken multiple visits to Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky and others in an attempt to find the best landing spot for him outside of the presumptive package deal that had been widely discussed with 5-star offensive lineman Paris Johnson and 4-star linebacker Jaheim Thomas.

After injuring his shoulder last season, Henry has spent most of the last six months rehabbing and working to get himself back to full strength. That has impacted his national ranking, which has dropped a bit because of subpar camp performances. Those performances came mostly as the result of Henry’s inability to work out, but he’s been grinding in the last month-plus to get back to where he wants to be — and that showed during a one-day camp outing in Columbus earlier in June.

Despite the long looks at other programs, the chance to stay closer to his Cincinnati home and to work with legendary defensive line coach Larry Johnson are two reasons why I expect Henry to pick Ohio State.
