Ohio State offers 2019 West Virginia prospect during recent visit
While the Buckeyes were finishing up their week of spring practice before beginning spring break, the Ohio State coaching staff was welcoming in one of the top prospects from West Virginia in the 2019 recruiting class for a visit.

The player is Doug Nester, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound junior-to-be out of Huntington’s Spring Valley High School. The offer from Ohio State is ninth for Nester, who also holds offers from schools including Tennessee, Florida, Louisville and of course, West Virginia, the school that holds the lone 247Sports.com crystal ball prediction for the offensive tackle at this time.

But Ohio State’s offer could be a recruitment-changing one for Nester. He told Land of 10 following the visit that it was a “great” trip and that the Buckeyes were a team he’d include at the top of his list. Of course, there’s a long way to go until signing day 2019, but the Buckeyes have identified a few key targets along the offensive line in that class already with Nester and Minneapolis’ Quinn Carroll.

    OVER IT

Ohio State welcomed Huntington, West Virginia, Spring Valley four-star offensive tackle Doug Nester for its second one-day camp of the summer on Tuesday afternoon, which marked his third trip to Columbus this spring. That includes the day he was offered a scholarship in early March and the Spring Game in mid-April.

“It was a really great experience getting to work with Coach Stud and working with all of the coaches,” Nester told the media gathered just outside of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. “[He likes my] quick feet, being strong and being able to move well.”

The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Nester is considered the fifth-best offensive tackle and No. 48 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as he was named first-team all-state after helping the Timberwolves rack up 4,997 rushing yards on their way to the state title game last season. He holds more than a dozen offers from programs such as Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, and might make a decision on his future in the next month or so.

“It really just depends if it hits me then. I’ll fire off a top list if it hasn’t, but if it has, then I won’t,” Nester said. “[It's] just where I fit in best.”

While most prospects enjoy the recruiting process, that doesn't seem to be the case for Nester. He was pretty reserved when surrounded by eight or so reporters — including myself — shoved their camera phones in his face.

“It’s alright,” he said. “It’s not the best thing, but it’s kind of hard sometimes with all the traveling and everything. But I’ll make it work.”

Adding a player of Nester's caliber would be a great start to Ohio State's 2019 recruiting class. And with starting left tackle Jamarco Jones graduating and left tackle Isaiah Prince eligible to enter the NFL Draft next spring, the position is one that will continue to be of great need for the Buckeyes.

“They're definitely high up there,” Nester said of Ohio State.

    Doug Nester • 2019 OT • Huntington, WV (Spring Valley) • ★★★★

We haven't talked a whole lot about the country's No. 6 offensive tackle for the 2019 class, but he may be one to watch closely in the coming weeks. Doug Nester, a West Virginia native who checks in at No. 48 nationally for the class, has now made multiple trips to Columbus dating back to April and is building a relationship with both Meyer and Greg Studrawa.

Schools like Tennessee, Florida, and West Virginia are squarely in the mix here as well, and Nester was scheduled to be in Tuscaloosa yesterday for Alabama's camp. The four-star doesn't appear to have a decision timeline, but this certainly could be one to watch.

MOUNTAINEERS LOOK TO END LOSING STREAK

Ohio State welcomed Huntington, West Virginia, Spring Valley four-star offensive tackle Doug Nester to campus for the one-day camp on Tuesday. And less than a week later, he included the Buckeyes in his Top 5 alongside Alabama, Florida, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Nester is considered the fifth-best offensive tackle and No. 48 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as he was named first-team all-state after helping the Timberwolves rack up 4,997 rushing yards on their way to the state title game last season. Tuesday's camp visit marked his third trip to Columbus this spring, and he got some valuable time with offensive line coach Greg Studrawa.

"It was a really great experience getting to work with coach Stud and working with all of the coaches," Nester told the media gathered just outside of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. "[He likes my] quick feet, being strong and being able to move well."

Nester mentioned the possibility of committing sometime in the next month without narrowing his list down first, but apparently he's not ready to make that call just yet. While most prospects enjoy the recruiting process, that doesn't seem to be the case for Nester, who was pretty reserved when eight or so reporters — including myself — shoved their camera phones in his face.

The home-state Mountaineers seem to be the biggest threat at this point in time, though.

Add another major 2019 prospect for Friday Night Lights

Huntington (W.Va.) 4-star offensive lineman Doug Nester will be back at Ohio State in July. The nation’s third-ranked offensive tackle in the 2019 class confirmed to Land of 10 his plans to attend Friday Night Lights.

Nester last visited the Buckeyes when he camped in Columbus on June 13. He talked to Land of 10’s Ben Axelrod about his plans to commit “soon.”

“It’s almost to an end with the recruiting and everything, so I can start working with that team getting me ready to come in,” Nester revealed outside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Ohio State will get another shot to be that school for Nester next Friday. Commitment watch?

    GET YOUR BOOM.GIFS READY

Ohio State landed a pair of commitments at Friday Night Light last year in the form of 2017 five-star defensive end Chase Young and 2018 four-star running back Brian Snead, but only time will tell if this year's event will have the same impact. One prospect I'd wager becomes a Buckeye by weekend's end, though, is Huntington, West Virginia, Spring Valley five-star offensive tackle Doug Nester.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Nester, who is listed as the third-best offensive tackle and No. 39 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, will be making his fourth trip to Columbus this spring. He recently included Ohio State in his Top 5 alongside Alabama, Florida, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, but acknowledged a decision could come at any time this summer.

While most prospects seem to enjoy the recruiting process, that's certainly not the case for Nester. He admitted as much when eight or so reporters shoved their camera phones in his face following the Buckeyes' one-day camp in early June.

“It’s alright,” Nester said. “It’s not the best thing, but it’s kind of hard sometimes with all the traveling and everything. But I’ll make it work.”

Nester and his family are taking a week-long vacation in Cincinnati, with trips to a Reds game and Kings Island planned before heading to Columbus for Friday Night Lights. If the staff, including offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, push for his pledge, I think it happens. The two have grown quite close, and landing a prospect of Nester's caliber would be a great way to get things started for the Class of 2019 — though I anticipate a move to guard might be in his future.

Either way, Ohio State would be landing one of the country's best at either position.

“It was a really great experience getting to work with coach Stud and working with all of the coaches," Nester said. “[He likes my] quick feet, being strong and being able to move well.”

In addition to Nester, I'll have a full list of expected attendees in the next few days. My colleague, Andrew Ellis, will then let you know if any of them are on commitment watch.
