Noah Cain sets first Ohio State visit date

Just about one week after landing a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes, the country’s top-ranked 2019 running back has a visit set to Ohio State.

“I’ll be up there April 8,” IMG Academy standout Noah Cain told Land of 10. “I’m going up there with my dad.”

Cain told us last week that one of the reasons he was excited for the Ohio State offer was because of how Tony Alford and the Buckeyes create well-rounded running backs.

“I like the way they develop running backs,” he said. “Complete running backs.”

Now with his first trip to Columbus set, the fifth-ranked prospect in the 2019 recruiting class will be looking at a more comprehensive view of the Buckeyes program.

“I’m excited to see the atmosphere of the campus,” he said. “That and just the vibe I get from the coaches.”

Noah Cain impressed by Ohio State visit

Ohio State hosted the country’s top-ranked 2019 tailback, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 4-star Noah Cain. The visit on Saturday opened the eyes of the 5-foot-11, 207-pound back.

“I had a great visit,” Cain told Land of 10. “I will definitely be back in the fall for a game.”

For Cain, who spent a lot of time on Saturday speaking to Stacy Elliott – the father of former Buckeyes tailback Ezekiel Elliott – the chance to talk to Meyer and his running backs coach, Tony Alford, was the best part of the visit.

“Just the chance to sit and speak with Coach Meyer and Coach Alford,” he said when asked about his trip’s highlights. “Watching my film with Tony Alford.”

Though he plays in Florida, Cain is originally from Texas. He spent time with Ohio State freshman running back J.K. Dobbins, who also comes from Texas.

“J.K. Dobbins just told me if I come to Ohio State, that it’s a grind,” he said. “He said that Coach Meyer and the staff will look out for you. It was one of my top visits.”

Country’s No. 1 RB in 2020 a fan of Ohio State

Ohio State is in hot pursuit of the country’s top-ranked running back in 2018 (the aforementioned Zamir White), 2019 (Noah Cain, from IMG Academy in Florida by way of Texas) and has now made a move on one of the country’s premier running backs in the Class of 2020.

That is Miles Friday, a Peachtree Ridge High School (Suwanee, Ga.) star as a freshman who will transfer to IMG this summer, where he’ll line up alongside Cain. Ohio State has had luck in Suwanee over the years, landing both Cameron Heyward and Bradley Roby from Peachtree Ridge.

“Ohio State is one of my dream schools,” Friday told Land of 10. “I’ve wanted to go there from a very young age.”

While forced to try to believe that the 15-year-old Friday isn’t still a “very young age,” it doesn’t take much convincing to see why he’s already landed offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Louisville and others.

A trip to Ohio is on the docket for this summer, according to Friday, though he’s unsure when. His memories of Ohio State go back to when he was just 5 years old.

“Terrelle Pryor, the history of winning and their tradition,” he said when asked his reasons for growing up fond of the Buckeyes. “I was really humbled by the offer. It just makes me want to work even harder to prove to them that taking a risk on me wasn’t a mistake.”

NOT THE ONE YOU WERE THINKING

Hundreds of top-rated prospects will make their way through the doors at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center over the next week and a half, but none may be more noteworthy than Bradenton, Florida, IMG Academy four-star running back Noah Cain.

He'll be on campus June 16-18, though he's unsure at this time whether he'll compete in the Buckeyes' one-day camp on the 17th.

This will mark the second trip to Columbus in three months for Cain. He also attended a spring practice in early April, at which time he got to watch film and draw up plays with Meyer and running backs coach Tony Alford.

“I did everything last time, but I just want to keep getting comfortable with the staff,” Cain told Eleven Warriors.

The 5-foot-11, 207-pound Cain is considered the top-rated running back and No. 23 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as was named a MaxPreps All-American after he rushed for 1,683 yards and 22 touchdowns for Denton, Texas, Guyer last season. He transferred to IMG in January.

Cain, who holds more than 20 offers from programs such as Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA, said Ohio State is among his early leaders. He cites the competitive atmosphere as a big reason why the Buckeyes are certain to make his list of top schools when the time comes to narrow things down.

The race for the nation’s top running back in 2019

It’s probably too early to say it’s Ohio State or Texas for the country’s top-ranked running back in the Class of 2019 — especially since he has a three-day visit to Michigan slated for this coming Thursday — but it seems like a two-team race between the Buckeyes and Longhorns for Noah Cain.

Cain and his father Terrence are still in Ohio, and they checked out a Cincinnati Reds game Sunday afternoon before heading back to Columbus for a flight. The visit started on Friday, his second in three months to Ohio State. The Buckeyes and Longhorns, so similar in method and design, continue to impress Cain.

“I feel very comfortable at Ohio State,” he told Land of 10. “The program fits what I’m trying to do.”

What Cain is doing is attacking his recruitment hard and finding a team that runs the ball but won’t be loaded up with running backs when he arrives. The future of the Buckeyes program, for a 2019 player, is coming clear. Tony Alford and the Buckeyes staff laid out a plan that shows him where and how he fits. The up-front nature of the communication opened his eyes the most on this trip.

“Coach Meyer and the staff,” he said when asked what stood out the most this time around. “How much love coaches showed me. They treat me like family already.”

Cain is expected to make visit No. 3 to Ohio State this September when the Buckeyes host Oklahoma on Sept. 9.
