STANDING IN LINE AT THE DMV

Less than a week after he took an unofficial visit, Ohio State offered a scholarship to Washington, D.C., St. John's College four-star linebacker Shane Lee.

“Coach [Larry] Johnson said he wanted me to call him every once in a while to build a relationship, so I called until I got ahold of him and he let me know the good news,” Lee told Eleven Warriors. “It's humbling. It means I'm headed in the right direction. I just have to keep my head down and stay true to who I am.”

The 6-foot, 240-pound Lee is considered the top-rated inside linebacker and No. 23 prospect overall in the Class of 2019. He holds more than a dozen offers from programs such as Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina and Penn State, but is in no hurry to make a decision and has no leader.

Lee was named to the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American after leading the Cadets to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title game, where they lost to Ohio State defensive end commit Chase Young and DeMatha. He spoke very highly of his visit and hopes to return this fall.

“It was nice. I learned a lot about the school academically, athletically and we also talked about life after football.”

Another name to keep an eye on is Washington (D.C.) St. John’s College High linebacker Shane Lee, a physical force who looks and plays much older than his class year.

“Lee has proven to be a dominant player over the last two seasons. He is physically imposing, a big hitter and can play sideline-to-sideline,” Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Analyst Adam Friedman said. “Lee also has a knack for creating turnovers. Maryland, Michigan and many other are involved in Lee's recruitment.”

Shane Lee continues to impress Buckeyes

Shane Lee, the nation’s third-ranked inside linebacker in the Class of 2019, made his third visit to Ohio State last week, clearly imprinting himself as a player to watch.

Lee, from Baltimore, showed up to Columbus early Friday afternoon and took in a visit with the Buckeyes coaching staff.

“I think we have a strong relationship,” Lee told Land of 10. “I try and call [defensive line] coach [Larry] Johnson every week and [linebackers] coach [Bill] Davis and I always have very productive conversations.”

After touring the facilities and spending time with coaches, Lee worked out for the Buckeyes and looked every bit like a Top 100 prospect. He is powerfully built at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, but doesn’t have any of the baby fat you’d expect to see on such a young prospect. He runs very well, gets downhill quickly, and most of all sees the field well, a must-have trait for an inside linebacker.

“I was really impressed by Shane,” one Ohio State source told Land of 10 following the camp. “He isn’t your average teenager. Really sharp kid, and has a go-get-it mentality that fits into the Buckeyes program well.”

Penn State, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Maryland, Michigan and others are among the 4-star linebacker’s 13 early offers.

    MEYER VS FRANKLIN, ONCE AGAIN
While the weekend centered mostly around the offensive line, several top defensive targets also made the trip to Columbus, including Baltimore St. Frances Academy four-star linebacker Shane Lee.

The visit — which was somewhat unexpected — wasn’t his first time on campus, but answered a few remaining questions he had about the program.

“I saw pretty much everything [left to see],” Lee told Eleven Warriors. “I saw the campus, dorms and the stadium.”

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Lee is considered the second-best inside linebacker and No. 58 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, and was named first-team all-state after leading the Panthers to the Maryland Association A Conference championship last season. He holds offers from more than a dozen programs, including Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State.

Lee was last on campus for Friday Night Lights in July, and he's been able to build a strong relationship with linebackers coach Bill Davis and defensive line coach and area recruiter Larry Johnson in the months since.

“It's only gotten better as time has passed,” he said.

Lee has not released a list of top schools just yet, but I'm 100 percent certain the Buckeyes, Nittany Lions will make the cut when he does. His recruitment will likely mirror that of Maryland four-star offensive tackle Rasheed Walker last recruiting cycle, but they're certainly hoping the end result is different.
