    Buckeyes offer Matthew Baldwin

After his weekend visit to Columbus, Austin (Texas) 3-star quarterback Matthew Baldwin landed his biggest recruiting offer yet, from the Buckeyes.

The Colorado State commitment told Land of 10, however, that having the offer doesn’t mean any decision about his future is imminent. He has only recently been recruited by Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, and last weekend was the first chance to really get to know the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff. He needs to now return to Ohio State sometime soon to continue building his relationships there.

“I am trying to get up for an official visit,” Baldwin said. “To spend more time with those guys.”

With the drama and uncertainty around the status of Emory Jones‘ commitment, Ohio State is now all-in when it comes to pursuing other quarterbacks in the Class of 2018. They offered Jarren Williams, the former Kentucky commit, two weeks ago and he’ll visit the Buckeyes officially this coming weekend. As we talked about Sunday night, Ohio State also hosted Tennessee commit Adrian Martinez last weekend (though they have not yet offered him).

But … Jones is still committed, despite the flood of rumors and innuendo that he’s bound to flip to Alabama. Jones has put the Buckeyes in a bad position as he ponders his own future, and that’s why Urban Meyer has no choice but to offer other players. You can’t miss on a quarterback in this recruiting class if you’re the Buckeyes.

“You have to have one every year,” Meyer said Monday when asked about quarterback recruiting. “That’s setting yourself up for disaster if something goes on down the road. So you always have plan A, B, C and D. And we do.”

Jones is Plan A, believe that. He’s been Plan A for a long time. Whether Baldwin is Plan B, C or D, that is up for debate. But Meyer did acknowledge that what I’ve been suggesting for weeks is now a possibility — the need for a second QB in this class if you can get one.

“[It’s] possible, possible,” Meyer said about taking two quarterbacks in the Class of 2018. “Just like you said the issue that’s going to come up here is the early signing period. And you still don’t know who is going to declare for the draft a month later. [Buckeyes director of player personnel] Mark [Pantoni] just keeps wanting to talk to me about it — and I said, give me some time. But we don’t have much time.

“But the other thing you’re going to see is the guy you keep on the back burner and try to flip him at the end, he signs on [Dec. 20th, the first day of the early signing period], you don’t have those guys, either. It’s going to be an interesting year.”

It already has been, Urban, it already has been.

ALL SIGNS POINT TO A #BOOM

Though it’s seemed as if Ohio State has been held hostage for the last few months by the uncertainty surrounding four-star quarterback commit Emory Jones, the Buckeyes have made several contingency plans in case he eventually flips to Alabama.

Among them, Austin, Texas, Lake Travis three-star quarterback Matthew Baldwin, who decommitted from Colorado State late Thursday evening. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ Brian Perroni.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Baldwin committed to the Rams in July, but has seen his stock soar in his first season as a starter. He’s thrown for 3,198 yards and 38 touchdowns and rushed for 379 yards and seven scores to help the Cavaliers to the state semifinals this season, and he’s picked up offers from Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio State as a result.

Baldwin, who attended and landed an offer during the Buckeyes’ 48-3 win over Michigan State, is well aware of the quarterback quandary in Columbus. He’s indicated Jones’ pledge won't impact his potential commitment, and sources close to the program have told Eleven Warriors quarterbacks coach Ryan Day is extremely high on him.

The plan is to get Baldwin back on campus for an official visit in the next few weeks, during or after which I anticipate he’ll commit to Ohio State. That means the Buckeyes will be guaranteed at least one signal caller in the class with a slight chance at two, whether that means holding onto Jones or flipping four-star Adrian Martinez from Tennessee.

    Verbaled to Ohio State

Before all of Buckeye Nation freaks out about Baldwin committing, the staff wants two QB’s this cycle with a possible transfer coming this spring. Emory has been well aware of the staffs interest in Baldwin. Relax.

If Jones goes elsewhere it will not be because we took another quarterback..........

Regardless of what is on twitter, he knew the plan to take two quarterbacks.........

This is more about Burrow most likely transferring and if Jones went elsewhere, we would go into the year with only two scholarship quarterbacks............can't do that........

Really look at this kid, he can play. Jones will do what he is going to do but we cannot be left with no quarterback for this class.......
