It would be huge if we could bring this kid in along with Tony Parker. We would own the glass in the B1G. He's supposed to announce during the Fall signing period.

I can't blame a kid for wanting to head to Nashville, it's one of my favorite cities in the country.

Entering the spring, we listed Alex Poythress (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) as a power forward. Not anymore. Poythress proved that he's a beast along the baseline and improved to the point he can fire 3s with accuracy.

Poythress talks Duke..............The basketball staff in Durham has started to figure out the main prospects that they will recruit from the class of 2012. With 6-foot-3 shooting guard Rasheed Sulaimon already on board, the Duke coaching staff has been concentrating on some post players and they're starting to get more involved with some combo forwards as well.

    Alex*Poythress:

    Alex*Poythress:

Thanks to class of 2012 power forward Alex Poythress (#25) for doing the interview with us. He is a 6’8, 215-pound big man who attends Northeast High School and plays AAU for the Georgia Stars. He’s being recruited by the top colleges across the country from Kentucky to Duke to local schools such as Tennessee.

Which schools are recruiting you the hardest?

Vandy, Memphis, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, UConn, Duke, Kentucky, Ohio State, Stanford and some more.

What are you looking for in a school?

I’m just trying to find the best fit for me. I like an up-tempo offense where the point guards run a lot.

What has been your favorite part of the recruiting process?

Having all of the coaches watching you is pretty cool. Getting all of the calls from the college coaches is pretty cool too and just talking to them about their program and stuff like that.

Who has helped you the most in the recruiting process?

Probably my mom, my high school coach and my dad. They just help me figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s not. They have my best interest at heart.

Which coaching staff do you have a strong relationship with?

Probably Vandy since they’ve been recruiting me the longest, it doesn’t necessarily give them an advantage though because a lot of schools have been recruiting me for a long time.

Which coaching changes have affected your recruitment?

Tennessee affected me a lot. They’re still recruiting me, actually, [head] coach [Cuonzo] Martin called me a few weeks ago so I’m still considering them.

Who’s trying to recruit you to go to their school?

We’ve been joking around but [class of 2012 power forward] Robert [Carter] (#33), [class of 2012 power forward] Tony [Parker] (#15), [class of 2012 small forward] Damien [Wilson] and people like that but we’re mostly just joking around a whole lot.

What is your favorite basketball memory?

Probably winning our sub-state game to go to states my freshman year. It was the first time my school went to states in school history.

What’s one thing people probably don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know I play tennis, I’ve been playing since my sophomore year. I just play it because all of my friends play it.

What are some of the things you’ll be working on this summer to improve as a player?

Just working on my mid-range game, my ball-handling, and to get my shot a little bit more consistent.

What has been your favorite event or camp so far this summer?

My favorite camp is the Kevin Durant Nike Skills Academy, it was pretty nice. The drills are good and you have one of the best players interacting with you, it was pretty cool.

Do you have a time-table for when you want to commit?

Maybe in the fall, I want to narrow down my schools this summer.

Which fan base is recruiting you the best and the hardest?

Kentucky, Louisville and Memphis. It does impact my recruitment because it shows how crazy and passionate the fans are.

What’s one thing you think people probably don’t know about the recruiting process?

People probably don’t know how hard it is and how many phone calls you get. I’m always getting calls, everyday of the week.

What advice would you give younger kids regarding basketball and the recruiting process?

For basketball they just need to keep working hard and keep getting better. With the recruiting process they just need to take their time because there’s no rush.

What was it like hearing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar speak at the NBPA Top 100 Camp?

It was pretty exciting, you just need to take it all in, it’s not something you get to do everyday.

When Alex Poythress was in sixth grade, he got cut from his middle school basketball team.

His twin sister, Alexis, made the girls team, and some of the neighborhood kids teased him because she could beat him shooting in the driveway.

I was like, Alexis, just let him win. Please let him win, said their mother, Regina. But she beat all the little boys in the neighborhood. Alex was so disappointed when he got cut. He cried and cried. His body grew before he could be coordinated and he was wearing a size 14 shoe back then.

A lot has changed since then.

Poythress has grown into his 6-foot-8, 215-pound frame, and coaches rave about his athleticism. The Northeast senior has blossomed into one of the nation's top prospects, earning offers from defending national champion Connecticut, Ohio State, Florida, Louisville and Texas as well as Vanderbilt and Tennessee.

Maybe after the summer I might narrow my list (of schools) down, Poythress said. I'm going to try (to make my decision) before the season, but I have no clue. I'm just hoping to find the best fit for me.

    What's Poythress thinking?

There's always a few guys in each class who are a challenge to pick their brain. Alex Poythress (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) is a tough guy to tie down. Vanderbilt and Florida have the most coach involvement when it comes to his recruitment but the list of suitors is long. You know Tennessee is making a pitch. Kentucky, Duke, Ohio State, Louisville, Connecticut and Texas are interested.

Poythress sits squarely on the fence of playing the small forward or power forward, but he wishes to be recruited as a small forward.

012 PF Alex Poythress, Georgia Stars: One of the most explosive players at the event, Poythress could not be contained by the Florida Rams. He was getting to the rim for dunks, knocking down three point shots, and attacking the offensive glass for easy buckets. He's a bit of "tweener" right now but he's got the ability to play either position successfully at the next level.

Poythress, who's been nearly unstoppable this week, averaging 16.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and four assists in four games, has offers from Memphis, Connecticut, Florida, Louisville, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt.

A Tennessee Class AAA Mr. Basketball finalist as a junior last season, the versatile Poythress confirmed Memphis is in the mix for his services, but added he's not close to narrowing his list. Poythess made an unofficial visit to Memphis last season, sitting behind the Tigers' bench during the East Carolina game.

"(Pastner's) a pretty good coach. He knows what he's doing," Poythress said.
