So what big name do the Terps still have their sights on in this class?

For one, Amile Jefferson (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) -- a player who at 6-foot-7, 190-pounds is built similar to Grant but rated higher (No. 24 overall by ESPNU).

"... things went well with Amile Jefferson," wrote Scout.com's staff after the swingman's recent visit to Maryland. "In fact there is a lot of buzz around Jefferson that the Terps could be in the early pole position. An upcoming visit to Ohio State could really tell a big story, but the Terps really impressed. One thing to keep in mind is that this recruitment could stretch out until right to signing day or even further, so it is bound to have twists and turns, but Maryland has made themselves a serious player here, and the ball is now in the other schools court in order to match what he saw in College Park."

Ohio State is only official visit planned thus far for Jefferson

    InsideMDSports: Jefferson weighing options

It's been difficult to gather any new information this fall on Amile Jefferson, the highly touted senior forward from Friends Central School in Wynnewood, Pa. Jefferson, one of the highest-rated prospects remaining on Maryland recruiting board, has been silent about his recruitment, preferring to move through the process without great fanfare and at his own pace.

It remains unclear where Maryland stands with Jefferson, though Friends Central coach Jason Polykoff did give InsideMDSports.com a brief re-cap of his meeting last week with the prized 6-foot-9 forward.

"He still doesn't have a favorite list, per se," Polykoff said of Jefferson, who visited Maryland unofficially for the Miami football game. "He wants to visit a lot of the schools before he makes a decision. He doesn't want to just make a decision based on what their record was last year or where a friend is going."

Polykoff said Jefferson has just one official visit planned, to Ohio State the final weekend of this month. He'd also like to see Maryland again, along with Syracuse, UConn, St. John's and possibly Stanford. He's already visited Temple, N.C. State and Villanova and is considering those schools as well. While his coach remains hopeful Jefferson will decide before the start of his senior season, he said a spring decision is possible.

"The whole process for him, I think, has been a roller coaster," he said.

The Terps have been recruiting Jefferson for more than a year, and he's been to College Park on several occasions.

"He definitely enjoyed it. I know he's been there before and he enjoys it every time he's there. I think he's still open and looking at a bunch of schools," he said.

A versatile player who averaged around 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks as a junior, Jefferson is nightmare match-up for any high school team. Though he plays in the post in high school, he's working hard on his jumpshot in an effort to transition to the small forward spot in college.

Combine his obvious on-court talent with his strong character, academic focus and sunny disposition off it, and it's easy to see why he's a no-brainer for most college programs.

"He's a bright kid. Friends Central is one of the best private schools in Pennsylvania and he does well here," Polykoff said. "The word that I hear all the time from college coaches is "refreshing." He's the big man on campus here and everybody loves him. We have a clinic every year and the kids just [gravitate toward him]. He's just a lovable guy."

Jefferson, Harris Back from Kentucky Visits
BY ADAM ZAGORIA ON OCTOBER 24, 2011, 9:54PM

One week after Big Blue Madness, Kentucky hosted a pair of high-profile recruits this past weekend in Amile Jefferson and Gary Harris.

“The visit went fine,†Malcolm Musgrove, Jefferson’s father, told SNY.tv Monday night by phone. “They want him. They were a little late in recruiting him but had an opportunity to see him late in the summer.â€

Musgrove said Kentucky coach John Calipari “likes what he does as a combo forward. They think that his style of play suits what they do well, creating mismatches and that’s what he is. He’s a mismatch nightmare.

“Put a bigger kid on him and he can put the ball on the floor and he typically goes around him. They can’t stay with him.

“Put a smaller guy on him, then he drives them straight to the block. His footwork on the block is pretty good.

“They felt he fit their system. They like all of their players to be able to go off the bounce. They*feel he can come and contribute and play right away.â€

Musgrove said his son is considering seven schools at this point: Kentucky, Stanford, N.C. State, UConn, Villanova, Temple and Ohio State.

He has already taken officials to Ohio State and UConn (two weekends ago), and has taken numerous unofficials to Villanova and Temple.

Jefferson will take an official to Stanford this coming weekend, and then head to N.C. State the first weekend in November for another official.

The goal is to sign during the early period in November, but they are not wedded to that.

“We’re going to sit down and weigh our pros and cons,†Musgrove said. “Figure out where he should be. If we can do that before the early signing period then we’re going to sign.

“If not then we’re going to sign late.â€

As for the 6-6 Harris out of Fishers (Indiana) Hamilton Southeastern, his visit to Kentucky was first reported by SNY.tv.

Gary Harris Sr. told BluegrassHoops.com he didn’t see any problem with his son potentially committing to a school that already has a pledge from 6-5 shooting guard Archie Goodwin.

“Well, in my opinion, basketball teams, coaches, and fans look too much into positions,†he told the site. “I think players should be able to play multiple places, as Kentucky is doing right now. I don’t really see a problem with Archie Goodwin being there. Coach Cal has proved he can make things work. As for Archie’s game, he is a high-level talent and great player.â€

Harris will next visit Michigan State in early November before looking to decide between the Spartans, Kentucky, Indiana and Purdue.

“After that, we plan for Gary to make an early decision,†Harris Sr. told BlueGrassHoops.com. “He wants to go into his senior season and enjoy everything. There is no exact date or anything like that, but we fully expect him to make a decision in November. That is the goal. It will ultimately happen when he is ready, though.â€

Wow Obie. What do you make of the timing? Is tomorrow the last day of the early signing period?

Most think he's heading to NC State but I've had a feeling for a long time now that if he doesn't come here, he's Nova bound.

I think Kentucky is out of the question now that Brice committed.
