The pass defense had been a problem all year, but it's disappointing performance on Monday exposed that the #Buckeyes weren't quite ready to wear college football's crown.https://t.co/GkpKwScHTs— BuckeyesNow (@BuckeyesNow_FN) January 13, 2021
Ohio State's pass defense finished the season toward the very bottom of the national rankings. Kerry Coombs and his secondary will be under the microscope for the next year. https://t.co/yvuNMChLoJ— Eleven Warriors (@11W) January 13, 2021
I know for a fact that Ohio State is looking hard at the transfer portal for help in the secondary...........
I highly doubt Day is going to pull the rip cord on Coombs after 8 games in a season like we just had with no spring ball and consistent interruptions
The talent may not be as good as previous, however he is teaching a technique and has implemented a scheme that does not improve the pass defense. I will give him a pass this season... Go Bucks
We did not have the talent and experience to run the 2019 defense......... Forced to play mostly base defense with some nickel mixed in.........
Shaun Wade is finally, officially heading to the NFL Draft.📽️The @byersauto Rapid Reaction breaks down the decision with @Birm joining me to talk about the impact📝Analyzing what the move means for Ohio State and who is next in line at cornerback https://t.co/nFMhxSPLBy— Austin Ward (@AWardSports) January 15, 2021
Shaun Wade's exit to the NFL clears the path for Ohio State to hold a massive offseason competition for spots in Kerry Coombs' secondary after a subpar year defending the pass. https://t.co/eLjrjliJtp— Eleven Warriors (@11W) January 15, 2021
Shaun Wade's play earned plenty of scrutiny this season, but will the 2021 Ohio State secondary be any better without him?A look at Kerry Coombs' defensive backfield without the first-team All-American cornerback.➡️ https://t.co/I7ooQ7gJW9 pic.twitter.com/c0MWvXxRU0— Griffin Strom (@GriffinStrom3) January 16, 2021
The performance of Ohio State's secondary in the CFP title game wasn't a surprise for OSU fans, so where does it go from here? https://t.co/mU7muXdrHP— Eleven Warriors (@11W) January 19, 2021
I would kick the tires on this one........... Amidst rumors, 2018 4-star DB Jalen Green has officially entered the transfer portal after totaling 47 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 INT and 7 PD at Texas #Longhorns @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody @DMcComasOB @OBWire https://t.co/UaqMR9t70C— NCAA Transfer Portal (@RivalsPortal) January 19, 2021
Ohio State's roster is taking shape following the recent NFL draft decisions. We look ahead and hand out some early position grades for Ryan Day's 2021 squad. https://t.co/ozdXVECXfi— Eleven Warriors (@11W) January 20, 2021 DEFENSIVE BACK The most problematic part of the 2020 team was without question its defensive backfield. Cam Brown's injury didn't do any favors for Kerry Coombs, and it was a fairly inexperienced unit outside of Shaun Wade who was also in an entirely different position. Sevyn Banks is expected to lead the cornerback room next season and hopefully Brown bounces back just fine from his Achilles injury. Josh Proctor should be the guy at safety and Lathan Ransom flashed at times as a true freshman. The Buckeyes are bringing in a talented crop of 2021 signees, but it's unwise to expect too much contribution from young defensive backs; even ones that are as talented as Jordan Hancock and Jakailin Johnson. Marcus Williamson returns at slot corner, and we'll see what kind of impact Ryan Watts and Lejond Cavazos may have in year two. Grade: B-
