    BUCKEYES OFFER 2021 DEFENSIVE TACKLE
Ryan Day didn’t waste any time getting on the recruiting trail during Ohio State’s bye week.

On Monday morning, Day made the two-hour trip up to Streetsboro High School to meet with 2021 defensive tackle Michael Hall Jr.

The conversation lasted only about five minutes or so, but Day didn't leave before giving Hall a coveted, committable scholarship offer. It was Hall’s second Big Ten offer thus far after he received a Michigan State offer this summer.

Day’s appearance and the big news left Hall extremely excited.

“Coach Day came in to the school today and talked to me for a couple of minutes, and he said he likes what he sees of me on film, and I just need to keep up the good work on the field and off the field,” Hall told Eleven Warriors.

We talked about Hall in the Hurry Up a little more than a month ago, detailing the rise of the 6-foot-3, 275-pound three-star prospect following a breakout performance at Lake Erie College’s Raw Talent Sports Showcase.

That camp, plus Hall’s performance at Ohio State’s big man camp this summer, helped put him firmly on the Buckeyes’ radar. He knew he needed to continue working hard to earn an offer, and he apparently did just that and was rewarded this week.

Hall says Day and the coaching staff love “how versatile I am as a junior D-lineman and my explosiveness of getting off the ball” and that he and the coaches discussed that he “just (needs) to get bigger, faster and stronger and keep working on technique.”

We talk a lot about versatility being a factor for many recruits who are targeted by Ohio State, as Day and his staff continue searching for that trait in the players they want to bring into the program.

Hall says he is still looking at his options and won’t be committing right away. He still has Michigan State, Cincinnati, Kentucky and Iowa State among his offers, but Ohio State looks like it’s the frontrunner.

Hall is not a highly rated prospect, so it might seem a bit surprising that he’s getting an offer this early, but Day and company clearly like the junior’s work ethic and potential to have an impact down the line.

Ohio State offers in-state defensive tackle Michael Hall
Just about a month ago Lettermen Row introduced readers to Streetsboro 2021 defensive tackle Mike Hall, an intriguing 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive lineman who had caught the attention of the Buckeyes during a summer camp outing in June.

During that introduction, the message was simple: Ohio State was going to be watching Hall closely and monitoring his academic progress as a marker of sorts for a potential offer. Progress must be happening, because on Monday morning Ryan Day offered the junior lineman during an in-school visit to Streetsboro.

“He said he likes what he sees on film from me ever since I came to their Big-Man Camp in June,” Hall told Lettermen Row following the offer. “They’ve been keeping up with me and like how I move as a defensive lineman, especially just being a junior.

“It feels amazing to get that offer now.”

As an Ohio prospect, the urge to commit was there for Hall. But he’s holding off for now.

“I definitely tried the hardest to keep my composure because I was so excited, and it was definitely hard not to commit,” Hall said. “It’s what I dreamt about as a kid playing Pop Warner football. I honestly don’t know at the moment when I’ll be back down there, but I definitely can’t wait to be back in the ‘Shoe.”

Ohio State commitment hard to put off for Michael Hall
Pulling the trigger and committing to Ohio State this weekend was also on the mind of Streetsboro 4-star 2021 defensive tackle Michael Hall.

“Honestly, I couldn’t even tell you how I [avoided] it,” Hall told Lettermen Row. “Meeting different recruits from all over the country, just creating a brotherhood with each other.

“That atmosphere in The ‘Shoe. The visit was just great.”

Hall has been to Columbus twice this season, and with the Buckeyes offer already in hand, his visit felt a little different. He was not being aggressively recruited by the Buckeyes commitments in attendance, but rather just hanging out with fellow Northeast Ohio juniors.

“I was hanging out with Ben Christman, Najee Story and Xavier Carlton,” Hall said. “Ben is still recruiting me somewhat.”

The urge to commit notwithstanding, a decision from Hall isn’t going to happen for a while if he can help it. He has a date set next summer that he’s aiming for — and until then, he’s going to try and focus on getting better.

“I’m just waiting on more to see my options,” he said. “I’ll be committing on June 13. I’m just going to get back in the weight room until then, but it’s gonna be 10 times more intense, along with more speed training. I am focused in the classroom and doing what I have to do so I can lead by example for the ones that look up to me.”

Mike Hall, similar to Kiner, is another player that has a lot of Buckeye buzz around him. Ohio State offered Hall this past fall before many other big schools got involved. That early offer looks to be paying off for the Buckeyes, as they look to be the early leader for the junior defensive tackle out of Streetsboro High School.

Hall already has a close relationship with Christman, who goes to a high school near the Buckeye target. He is a big priority in the 2021 class for the Buckeyes because of their defensive tackle need. He is already about 280 pounds and can become an even better player once he starts working with Mickey Marotti and Larry Johnson to become stronger and improve his technique.

Ohio State is the leader in Hall's recruitment, but there are plenty of other schools chasing Hall that may challenge Ohio State. He plans to commit on June 13.
