I wonder if he's on-track to graduate early this Spring or Summer term. If not, why not stay at Ohio State another year so you can grad-transfer next offseason? Unless the Fields recruitment soured his relationship with Day, he isn't better off sitting out 2019 somewhere else than he is fighting for the starting spot he wants here.

That said, Chip Kelly could use a quarterback

Might be a good pick-up for one of the MAC schools...or Sunbelt Conference...maybe Mount Union or Wittenberg needs a QB.

I hope he doesn’t feel entitled to the starting qb job just because Dwayne left and because he’s been there the longest now.

If Tate feels like he should be starting then my god you have to prove it in practice, especially when Fields gets here.

Uh no... I was on the complete opposite side of this. I was seeing what the over/under was on when Baldwin starts.

So is mom talking about Day or Tate? Tate lied about staying, just staying

True. But that goes both ways. If Fields is not eligible, Day just flushed the season down the drain. Day took a gamble by thinking he could keep Tate and Fields at least until the NCAA ruled...……..

Is it possible Tate was told something that was not accurate by Coach Day?

Don’t short sell Baldwin and the talent around him (WR’s, TE’s and Dobbins). I think the Bucks are Big 10 favorites again and have the talent to go further. Spring ball is extremely important this year.
    Go Bucks

Not selling Baldwin short but a huge challenge for the kid who hasn't had a real snap in college...….

I think so, but I bet there is some "he said, she said" that makes things seem worse than what was actually said.

When Tate said to the media that he has confidence that he would be QB1 because of the complicated playbook, I felt like that came from Day. I bet Day implied that Tate was the leader for QB1 because he has the head-start on the offense, then Tate took that and told his mom that "Coach told me I'm in the lead to start"... Then, when Day tells Fields that they're going to have a fair competition, Mom gets upset.

Then again, maybe Day called Mrs Martell and said "Tate is our starter, no matter what"... but I really doubt that. There's no point in Day outright lying to Martell if Martell can grad-transfer after Spring training.

Disagree. We have another QB that is more than capable. Furthermore, we could possibly get yet another transfer, there are many QBs out there although I think Fields has as good of a case as anyone.

I’m so over Tate Martell. I hope he transfers at this point.

The kid’s acting like a little bitch bc Day brought in new talent at a position we are thin at.... Sorry, Tathan, but every other player on this team has to compete against elite recruits/transfers. If you’re afraid of the competition, you can show yourself out.

I don’t mind him talking a big game and saying that he’s the best player to lead this team next year, but trash talking a new teammate, changing his Twitter bio to “quarterback of ...”, and having his parents refer to your Head coach as a “liar,” is ridiculous.

I’m glad we’re seeing this now, because these are deep rooted maturity issues that would inevitably arise over the course of the season. Ohio State doesn’t need a diva at QB who bitches every time he sits. JT Barrett was benched for half a season after breaking almost every QB record at the school a year before and carrying us to a playoff birth, and respected his coaches/staff enough to bite his tongue and support his team/coaches from the sidelines.

We’re in the middle of a transition in many ways, and the last thing we need is a “me-first” player at the most important position on the field.

It’s different for QBs. Other positions don’t need to transfer out when they lose a competition. Tate should transfer, because otherwise he’ll likely never play.

I don’t get the animosity directed at Martell for doing what Fields just did, just with a little more Twitter action

I have no problem with players transferring. I just think it's funny that Tate was so outspoken and Twitter tough about situation to only fold and run.
