    ONE-WAY TICKET TO COLUMBUS
It goes without saying Ohio State has had quite a bit of success when it comes to recruiting Brooklyn’s Erasmus Hall. In fact, it’s almost a foregone conclusion every time the Buckeyes offer a Dutchman that he’ll end up in Columbus — just ask four-star athlete Curtis Samuel (2014), three-star athlete Jahsen Wint (2016) and four-star center Matthew Jones (2018).

The staff would like to continue that streak, albeit in an odd year now that they’ve offered a scholarship to freshman defensive end Jahzion Harris.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Harris is not yet ranked by any major recruiting sites, but becomes just the eighth prospect from the Class of 2021 to land an offer from Ohio State. He played sparingly last season as Erasmus Hall made a run to the city league championship game, so there’s not much tape on him for coaches to see.

That said, Harris’ relationship with the Buckeyes’ staff dates actually dates back to when he visited campus with Jones for a one-day camp last June. His coach, Danny Landberg, is also in Columbus as we speak for the annual coaches clinic.

Harris’ only other offer is from Syracuse.

    NEXT IN LINE
On Friday, Ohio State offered a scholarship to Brooklyn Erasmus Hall defensive end Jahzion Harris.

“I was very excited about it,” Harris told Eleven Warriors, “but I knew I had to keep my cool and stay humble because it is only going to get better.”

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Harris is not yet ranked by any major recruiting sites, but is one of just nine prospects from the Class of 2021 holds an offer from the Buckeyes. It came at the recommendation of Dutchmen head coach Danny Landberg, who was in Columbus at the time for the Buckeyes’ annual coaches clinic.

Harris, whose only other offer is from Syracuse, actually attended a one-day camp in Columbus last summer alongside his former teammate, Ohio State freshman center Matthew Jones. He worked directly with defensive line coach Larry Johnson, and the two have kept in touch ever since.

“I liked the environment and how welcoming [the coaches] were,” Harris said.

There’s no doubt the Buckeyes are the early favorite in Harris’ recruitment, since Erasmus Hall has been a pipeline to Columbus in recent years thanks to Jones, running back Curtis Samuel (2014) and safety Jahsen Wint (2016). He hopes to return for another one-day camp in June.

The next man up from Erasmus Hall
Curtis Samuel, Jahsen Wint and Matthew Jones have helped pave a pretty comfortable road from Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn, NY) High School to Columbus and the next man up is Jahzion Harris. He made his second trip to Ohio State for camp – he was on campus last summer before he ever took a high school snap and ripped off a 4.64 in the 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3 and 175-pounds. Now at close to 190 pounds, Harris was back on campus with the Buckeyes and he’s developed his frame nicely in the last year.

There are still three years of high school ball left for Harris, but he holds an Ohio State offer already and barring a substantial change of heart, it seems like he’s pretty comfortable admitting that he’s got a soft spot for the Buckeyes. Harris’ teammates, he told the media after the camp, call him “Mr. Ohio State” in the locker room and there’s no doubt he’s comfortable with it.

He’s one of 15 prospects in the Class of 2021 with an Ohio State offer and the Buckeyes will have another two years build on a rock-solid relationship and to develop him into the player they think he can be.

He’s skinny, but he’s got the frame and explosiveness to be a really special player at the next level.

    KEEP THE PIPELINE FLOWING
Ohio State has created quite the pipeline at Brooklyn Erasmus Hall, beginning with H-Back Curtis Samuel in 2014 and then safety Jahsen Went and center Matthew Jones in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The Buckeyes hope to continue that pattern of success with 2021 defensive end Jahzion Harris, who attended a one-day camp last month.

"It was a great experience," Harris told Eleven Warriors. "I caught on quicker [than last year] to the techniques [defensive line coach Larry Johnson] was trying to teach me. It was kind of the same thing as last year, but I was catching on quicker this time."

This marked the second-consecutive year the 6-foot-4, 198-pound Harris — who is not yet ranked by any major recruiting sites, but already holds offers from Ohio State, Rutgers and Syracuse — has camped with the Buckeyes. He was actually on campus with Jones when he committed last summer, which has allowed him to build a strong relationship with Johnson and defensive coordinator/area recruiter Greg Schiano.

“Every time I come around, he’s always welcoming,” Harris said.

Harris played sparingly as a freshman, but his athleticism is off the charts. He showed as much during the camp, as he notched an absurd 51-inch vertical jump.

There’s a long way to go in Harris’ recruitment, of course, but he didn’t shy away from the assumption that he’ll follow in the footsteps of other Dutchmen and eventually end up with the Buckeyes.

“It’s a possibility,” Harris said. “I really like the environment. It’s not just that, though. I just see the connections after football and everything.”
