Ward and Nordonia had little trouble on Friday, defeating Revere by a final score of 34-13. Playing both ways, Ward finished with four catches for 25 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, the senior speedster had four total tackles and a interception, while also starring on the special teams, where he blocked a punt that helped set up a Knights touchdown.

Denzel Ward, CB, Macedonia (Ohio) Nordonia: Ward intercepted a pass, blocked a punt and caught two touchdown passes on offense in a 34-13 Senior Night victory for Nordonia (9-0, 6-0 Suburban) vs. Richfield Revere (5-4, 3-3).

Denzel Ward, CB, Macedonia (Ohio) Nordonia: The Knights (10-0, 7-0 Suburban) concluded an unbeaten regular season with a 41-7 win at Wadsworth (7-3, 4-3). Ward caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns on offense. Second-seeded Nordonia will host No. 7 Fremont Ross (7-3) Friday in the OHSAA Division II Region 4 bracket.

Lining up all over the field once again for Nordonia, Ward was a key reason why the Knights beat Fremont Ross, 58-26 on Friday. The future Buckeye defensive back caught five passes for 80 yards on offense, while snatching up four total tackles from his cornerback position.

Those stats might be solid, but it was on special teams where he really stood out, blocking not one, but two Fremont Ross punts on the day.

Similar to Burrow, Ward was a leader on both sides of the ball for his Nordonia squad. The two-way standout hauled in five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns playing wide receiver. From his cornerback spot, he finished with two total tackles, and a interception to help lead the Knights to a 56-52 Division II Region 4 Semifinal win over Perrysburg.

Barely leaving the field in the Division II title game, Ward was one of the only bright spots for Nordonia (14-1) all day long against a very tough and well coached Cincinnati La Salle team. On offense, Denzel hauled in six receptions for 103 yards. Playing cornerback, the two-way standout finished with five total tackles, in the controlling 55-20 La Salle Championship victory on Saturday.

I got to see him play quite a bit in the playoffs. He was always the best player on the field by a lot. He's a very good corner and return guy, not a bad receiver either.

Ward just may be the fastest signee in the class, having been hand-timed at 4.31 in the 40. Of course, hand times are notoriously generous, but rest assured that Ward is as fast as you want your cornerbacks to be. Along with his speed, he has a great ability to find and locate the football. He broke up 18 passes last season and intercepted nine passes. Along with Joshua Norwood, Ward will probably stay at cornerback following "freshman orientation".

Coombs: "Fast, fast, fast. And a Division II Defensive Player of the Year. Played on a very successful high school team. Committed. Going to come down here and pop some times that are going to be great. Gonna be bigger, stronger but he’s going to play some ball for us."
