Just listened to Birm on Letterman Row call Justin Fields “the best QB prospect I’ve ever seen at a camp. He’s Deshaun Watson.”

If he’s comparing their arm talent, that’s huge!! Because Watson is a 4.65-4.7 guy, Fields is a 4.45-4.5 guy.

I forgot to add, he also said that “with all due respect to Dwayne Haskins, he’s a better prospect.”

    FYSA.....…..

Day is working overtime speaking to Martell and his family. Trying to say this will be an open competition. Read into that what you will.

Also, if anyone knows what the NCAA will do with the hardship request, is just guessing.

My fear is Martell moves on, Fields is not eligible next year and we have to start Baldwin.

The NCAA will not restrict Fields. They don’t want to do that

I hate to go “Meyer wouldn’t have done that” so soon, but I don’t think Meyer would throw OSU’s hat in the Fields sweepstakes. His loyalty to his QBs was too solid. Martell’s decision to come to Ohio State, and stay after last year, was based in-part on who he would compete for playing time in ‘19.

Of course, Meyer and Day never would’ve said “you will definetly start in 2019” when they recruited him, but they sure as shit never told him they’d add an elite class of ‘18 QB for him to compete against. This isn’t like Joe Burrow, who knew going in that it was unlikely to ever be his team, but he wanted to compete anyway.

I don’t think this is an issue of loyalty per say, but rather an rather an issue of integrity. Under a traditional coaching change, things like this are normal and expected. But, you can’t do everything in your power to make this an “Urban Meyer team without Urban Meyer,” and get away with hitting the reset button on all your relationships.

I don’t like the idea of bringing in any elite transfer while we have elite kids waiting for their chance. At least not at QB. Fields will either win the starting job, or he’ll cause problems in the locker room... or both. Or he’ll go somewhere else, and Day’s relationship with Tate will have taken a big hit for nothing.

    I see your point...but here’s my take.

Urban is 82-9 at Ohio State, and fans and alumni were calling for his head. Now I know Gene and the University are smarter than that, however, we have see in other situations what losing a few games can do to a coach and how the outside noise can influence the decision.

With that said, Ryan Day knows his first couple of years are crucial! If he has an opportunity to get a kid that he feels is much better and can run his offense better, he’s going to do it. If Day goes 10-3 next year, fans are going to be all over him!

Loyalty can get a coach fired these days.

This is Ohio State. If Tate wants the job, he needs to beat out the best players in America for it. If he can’t win it that way, then he doesn’t get to start.

    I think it’s that simple.

I have not been impressed with him at all thus far, and hate the idea of our university turning away top talent in order to cater to a player’s feelings.

I thought Tate thrived on being disrespected and the under dog?

I look at it this way, Day's job is to win and as soon as possible. If Fields is the teams best chance, than bring him in.

I've never thought Tate would lead this team, but I'll admit some of that was the way him and his dad acted at camps when I would go. Both acted like they were better than world and any school needed them more than they needed the school
