Scout.com (Free) Miller's Record Day Marks Meyer's OSU Debut..................Braxton Miller ran and threw for 368 yards as Ohio State steamrolled instate rival Miami (Ohio) by a 56-10 final in the 2012 season opener for both teams. The game also served as the debut for Urban Meyer as head coach of the Buckeyes.
I believe the second game is a better barometer of where the team is and what issues we have.......... I am reserving judgement and not taking much from this game right now............
What Im taking from this game is that Miller still can't throw a spiral. I just don't get it. Miami's QB can throw one. Ducks all over the place.
He had a few ducks but most of his throws were fine............ When he did throw a duck it was due to his footwork and his hips.............Remember just a Sophmore and really did not have the chance to learn last year and was just thrown in there......... I am not going to be to critical of a guy who just had the 6th most offensive yards in school history......... I will take it.......... Worry about the spiral issue some other day..........
He's been throwing a football since he was in grade school. Hope the learning curve isn't a long one. Should be throwing spirals by now. And what is the throwing off the back of his foot thing. I did like the up tempo.
Tony Gerdeman @GerdOzone Urban Meyer told his offense before the game that they were going to go for 500 yards today. They went for 538. Marcus Hartman @marcushartman Zach Boren felt turning up the tempo on offense helped the Buckeyes after slow start Brandon Castel @BCastOZone Meyer made it sound like Devin Smith's catch could be his official break out moment. Said he has all the tools to be great.
Watching on tivo... Sometimes it takes a couple kicks to start a motorcycle, but once it does... Well, you see the results
actually not that bad plus i think of little advantages, like being able to give a reference to a receiver about how you want him to fade a route or such by referencing the markings
Last year we finished 105th in the nation in passing. The improvment in the first game was very noticeable but you are worried about 1-2 ducks he threw in the game? I just do not think it is that big of a issue............
That looked like a typical Fickell defense to me (which isn't a bad thing IMO). No rushing yards, quite a few passing yards, but very few points to show for it. Braxton's stutter-step was nothing I've ever seen on a football field. On the youtube clip it's barely noticeable, but live it was "what the hell was that?" That was some And-1 mixtape/street basketball stuff. I'm happy with the performance all around. Just consider the first quarter the preseason. Like BBall Junkie said though, game two offers a much better barometer of the team's strength... Just look at last year's first two games. BTW, I thought Urban Meyer was bringing SEC speed, not SEC weather... I was sweating all game, minus the 10 minutes of sprinkles.
The first quarter was rough to watch... but the rest of the way that was I was hoping for to see in the season opener. It was nice to see an Ohio State team stil putting TDs on the board in the 4th quarter... especially finishing a late game drive with a TD. First game there's always some cobwebs and rust to work out.
